Yeah...

In the morning of Sept 19th, the first day of a planned 2 week domestic tour and aprox 50 minutes into the mission, my GF managed to come off the road...

In the process she fractured her right femoral neck, sacrum, radius of left arm, a collarbone and a few ribs... :(
ER, 2x surgery, some bolts added, a few weeks basic re-mobilization therapy, the whole shebang...
She came home last Friday, Oct 31st... still on crutches, more therapy scheduled...
But she's a trouper, tough cookie... 😎
(others would have lamented the whole time, demanding ten-thousand things...)

The NT is a bit crumpled at the upper right side... but technically fully functional: tires, brakes, bearings, suspension all in top condition... engine fires on first push... so no defect as cause... 🤔

So besides taking care of her (equally resilient as independent not much demanded by her ;)) I'm already hunting for spares...

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your GF. As for the bike, it is just cosmetic damage, but quite a bit of it.....and unobtainable parts.
Best wishes and keep us up on progress.

I'm amazed the luggage lid didn't explode. I guess the engine guard and muffler prevented that.

Sorry to hear about her off, but she and the bike will recover with time.

Godspeed,

Mike

I'm amazed the luggage lid didn't explode.
I had replaced both gray inner halves just recently; locking mechanisms are still working perfectly.
The lid is only "sanded down" by the tarmac (of the bicycle way) the bike slid along, no cracks, nothing...
Got a buddy with a car body shop who will be able to take care of that (the scratched top-case lid as well)
Cowl stay is bend, mounting posts of instrument case sheared off, instrument glass cracked, RH turn-signal smashed, headlight seems OK though...
RH main panel, pocket, access cover, inner cover/air-guide, engine guard, brake lever... in total not that much of a damage...
Not even a bend handlebar, only a scratched brake reservoir cover...

Still interesting... by now she'd pushed ~70,000km/~44K-miles on that thing, we've been to Norway, Scotland, and then some... she rides daily, any weather, from Feb to Nov...
And now this, and she cannot even explain it... 🤔
There wasn't much of a turn there, sunny, dry, no gravel, no diesel/oil spill, nothing...
As we weren't in any rush (destination like 2 hrs away) she went kinda slowly... likely had her view on the landscape, drifted off and froze upon proximity to the shoulder...

Sorry to hear your bad news. May your GF’s healing be quick and complete.

Your sharing is yet another reminder to the rest of us to stay on top of our riding and on top of our ride. I think all of us have taken a momentary mental holiday while riding. Call it relaxation, complacency, zoning out, or whatever. Who among us hasn’t been surprised by going a bit wider than we intended. Let’s all keep our heads in the game - period.

Speedy recovery to Z girl friend and the bike. It is easy to get distracted by the beautiful landscape of Austria and Southern Germany. Ride safe my friend and keep us informed on the healing progress of Z Girlfriend and the rebirth of the Bike.

Bike damage looks minimal but some of those small items can add up fast. And may be hard to get.

Glad GF is recovering.

Thanx for the wishes

Interesting how common, normally unnoticed things can suddenly stand out, like picking something off the floor without using the 'gripper'...
She'd lost quite some weight during her confinements in hospital and the supermax reha, mostly loss of muscle mass...
So she's practicing a lot on her crutches, extending, if not doubling her distances daily, like in the 140 yards of the building hallway...

She's happy over every single progress... like being able to fix a meal all by herself...
She sat at the kitchen counter, everything in reach from my tall "laboratory stool" (we'd brought over from the bike shed/workshop),
munching, grinning like a freshly painted carousel horse... ;)
She might be slowed down a bit, but definitely not stopped...

Brief update...

GF recovering fine, already completely off crutches, of course still sore, slow and limping with that femoral neck bolted together...
Slightly restricted agility of left wrist due that plate nailed to the radius...
Wrist gives some discomfort when parallel parking her car, we'll have to see if that'll hinder her operating the clutch in any way...

So she's a trooper, pops and crackles a bit when moving around, slightly frustrated of the slow progress though...
Also a little p!$$ed that slots for extensive physio/reha aren't avail before end of February...
I guess she did expect to be back on her NT by then... ;)

I'm gonna dig into the NT over the holidays, list up and order all required parts to get it back in top shape... 🤓
(on me carefully expressing the possibility of getting a used NT could be the smaller financial effort, she almost threw a tantrum... ;))

BTW, her Schubert C3 pro took quite a beating...

Yep, that's a crack in fiberglass shell...

She loved that lid, we have the SENA for it and over no desire to go through the ordeal of having
to try on numberless models to find one that fits her again, I went into search-mode...
Mind that Schuberth is already on the C5 series now and size XS is also not very common either...
But I got lucky in Italy though 😎
Even in her preferred matte black...

What I still cannot locate it the yellow visor for the XS helmet shell... 🤔

She's also already roaming the Inet for new riding gear...
(the EMT's cut her Dainese 2-piece off in little pieces... and the ER doc complimented us on ATGATT... guess she'd seen things...)
Definitely gonna be GoreTex again...

Keep her healing up.
When you see riding gear/helmets after a crash it's hard to envision riding without like so many do. Take the gouges in her helmet and picture that force on skull.
Might be best to NOT picture that.
