I was trying to remove the heat shield to get a good and proper cleaning underneath it, and I came upon the rear hex bolt does not line up with the access cutout on the metal bracket whichj the rear rest is attached to. Am I missing something, or does the opening on the bracket or heat shield need to be modified?

It aligns OK but it's tricky to get the wrench into the hex bolt without scratching the footpeg mount.

Using an old hex (allen) socket, I removed the original hex shaft, installed one that was much longer then covered most of its length with vinyl hose. This way I can get that bolt started without worrying about scratching the footpeg mount too much. And the hex socket can still be used for other bolts with more normal access.
