    NT Accident Report

Many of you know a past moderator Rick, aka FalconAF. Yesterday Rick totaled his NT in eastern CA going from Lake Tahoe to Las Vegas. Rick is sore but escaped road rash and other injuries one might expect from a 60 mph uncoordinated dismount. His stitch and helmet "paid for themselves" in his words.

Rick was 3 seconds behind a friend on a Goldwing. They were going uphill on a 2 lanes up and 1 lane down road. The road curved to the left going uphill. The Wing and Rick were in the left passing lane after passing two slower vehicles on the right. The Wing was in the left track and Rick in the right. They were riding at the speed limit when an opposite traffic SUV crossed the double yellow line and struck the Wing. Rick said saw the Wing "explode", immediately he thought his friend was gone, and he was not going to make it thru the debris field if the SUV didn't hit him too. After that, the next thing he remembers is waking up at the scene and being checked by someone. His friend did survive. His friend was attended to by a dr and nurse in a vehicle(s) stopped by the accident. His friend was medivaced to Reno. Rick was sent to a local ER and released. His friend has extensive injury to his left leg but survived.

Rick said the road was strewn with mc parts. The Wing chassis is in two pieces and the engine completely separated. Rick said the NT front wheel rim is bent in 2 inches, but he does not know what he hit. The NT is mostly in one piece but is totaled with bent everything and twisted frame.

The SUV left the scene but the authorities found the vehicle and driver today based on eye witness accounts.

Things happen quickly, but sounds like he did OK, and his gear saved his skin. He'll be sore for a week or so, but he did well!!

Thanks for sharing this experience. Please pass this on to Rick

Disturbing to hear Frosty. Sure hope Rick and his friend recover from all their injuries.
Also hope the driver of that SUV is charged with leaving the scene and failure to maintain control.

Frosty thanks for the info. I wish them both well. It is surprising how fast these things happen and another to remember AGATT.

Wow! It's amazing to me that Rick's friend is alive. Almost as amazing that Rick wasn't injured almost as severely. Do you know where Rick is now? I'll call him in the morning if he's available.

    Thanks for sharing the story.

Wow. Really happy he and his friend are OK. That could have been much worse. Looks like they were south of Mono Lake?
