I saw the hand surgeon today. He said, "Ewww....you've got we call a 'messed-up' hand." From left to right, looking at my palm: 1)thumb -- OK; 2) index finger -- OK; 3) middle finger -- what's called a "boxer's break," the distal end of the meta-carpal is rolled back and under (toward the palm), effectively shortening the finger; 4 and 5) the proximal end of both fingers are badly broken and the "palm bones" are displaced by about 17 degrees. So he's going to pin the 4th and 5th finger breaks. He said that if he pinned the middle finger he thought I might have stiff hand. So, he's gonna' do some "manipulation" of that break and thinks that'll be better than pinning it.

I'll start physical therapy 2 days after the surgery and the pins will come out after a couple of weeks. I may get to ride again in '16!!

I hope it goes well for you and you recover most, if not all, of your dexterity.
I start physiotherapy on my torn shoulders on Monday morning.
I should have started two weeks ago but I have been too sick with the flu to go through physio too.
I start my fourth round of antibiotics tomorrow but I am feeling much better.
Ain't getting old a pain, literally!!!

Riding again in '16!, that sounds good! Hope he can fix your middle finger though, it comes in handy while riding/driving!

Hope your surgery and re-hab goes well.

And next time you want to kill a deer don't use your fist.

I AM SUPRISED THAT THERAPY WILL START SO SOON AFTER SURGERY BUT AM GLAD IT WILL BE POSSIBLE EVEN THOUGH I WILL SUSPECT THAT YOU WONT BE DOING PUSH-UPS THAT QUICKLY! aS WAS SAID EARLIER IF YOU HAVE TO OPEN DEER SEASON WHILE RIDIN I SUGGEST SOMETHING MORE POTENT THAN YOUR HANDD OR FIST EITHER ONE, COLT, rUGER , GLOCK AND OTHERRS MAKE GOOD TOOLS!

Boy Phil. I almost hate to say anything. The last time we all wished you a safe trip look what happened. Anyway I hope all goes well for you during and after the surgery.

Best wishes and good thoughts. Chris on way to Reno with 300 miles of deer country and open range to go tomarrow. Gulp!

"Bon courage, Phil."

(Hoping that using the French phrase will give you better luck :) )

Heal fast Phil. I know you are no stranger to rehab so you will likely do well.

Thanks to all for the prayers and positive thoughts. I'm ready to have both the surgery and the rehab behind me!

Good luck, Phil! Clutch squeezing will be ideal physical therapy!
