No vendors or real agenda, other than the pizza and giveaways on that Friday.

Anyone is welcome, we don't care what you ride. Heck I run this and the ST site and ride a yamaha so I have to allow others..

The last few years the attendance has been in the 20 to 30 range.

Lot's of food nearby. We are much different than your average BMW rally that's for sure, just laid back and making friends is most of what we do.

I attended my first on in 2012. That was the only year I rode my NT :). We lined up all the NT's and took a photo. Someone declared that there had never been more NT's gathered in North America at one time. We had around 25!

Most people who attend come from the ST-owners group. They are very welcoming and even among the ST-owners there is a variety of motorcycles. I was even welcomed when I rode my DR650 single cylinder :D. However, when prepping for a ride to Devil's tower a couple well meaning NT owners seemed concerned that I would have trouble keeping up with them. I assured them I would have no trouble, only to have one of my case protectors come off during the ride and forcing the group to pause while I collected it. Good times. I really enjoy the roads around there and the temperatures at night seem well suited to camping.

Seriously, it is a great rally for any motorcycle rider. Come and enjoy it. I missed last year, but plan on attending in 2017.

Some folks come early and leave late.
Some folks come late and leave early.
Some folks ride hundreds of miles per day.
Some folks never leave camp per day.
Some folks stay in a motel.
Some folks camp.
Some folks drink.
Some folks don't.
Some folks plan rides and then go.
Some folks just go for a ride without much planning.

It is a pretty open and friendly bunch.
Groups seem to form up to ride, eat, or shop.
Sometimes some wrenches come out and bystanders offer friendly advice.
Some people learn from the activites.
Some folks tell interesting stories
Some folks lie.

I've never seen a fight or an argument at Spearfish.
However folks disagree on the best tires, oil, lights, and even duct tape.
It is just a good time to be had.

Jim summed it up very well. I was a Concours owner for 11 years and attended 8 Concours Owners Group National Rallies during that time. They were always great, but the NT/ST-Owners Rallies in Spearfish have been even more enjoyable for me, largely because of the unplanned nature of things. Great friendships have sprung up and lasted. The Black Hills and nearby Wyoming offer great riding opportunities. Hey, some idiots even rode to North Dakota in '13...just because they could.

I'll be coming by car---the hip could not handle the ride from Maine. Can you recommend a Motel close to the main activities campsite?

Some have used Bell's but I'm probably the worst person to give any kind of a hotel review... There are tons of hotels nearby, the closest is probably the Howard Johnson's.

Made my reservation at Bell's as well. See you there. Unless something changes and my hip tolerates riding the Honda, I'll be driving the Shelby. It's a great highway cruiser.
