    Sunrise at Mt. Rainer

Last Monday, I took off with a friend to see Mt. Rainer. It's nice being retired now...I can do things during the week when places like this aren't nearly as crowded. On the other hand, I'm retired. Why was I waking up so early?

I live north of Seattle, so had an hour and a half ride just to get south to where I met Dave for breakfast. If you're in the area, the Black Diamond Bakery and Deli is great. They make all their own breads and pastries. I ordered an omelet and the waitress started me off with a half slice of a peach and a homemade muffin. And the omelet later was great!

    So here's some pics...

On the way up, just short of the Sunrise Visitor Center

Mt. Rainer from the Sunrise parking lot.

The foothills are pretty impressive in their own way.

Emmons glacier. This is the largest glacier in the continental US. The lower half is covered with rock. I believe the smaller peak to the left is called Little Tahoma. Part of it broke off years ago and the remains are scattered on top of the ice below. If you look in the center, you can see an ice cave where the White river comes out.

We parked the bikes and took a 3 mile hike out to Shadow Lake.

The flowers were everywhere. Blue. Purple. Red. White. Yellow.

Just before leaving, one last look.

On the way down, we stopped at one of the viewpoints. Dave rides a Suzuki Burgman 650.

The view of the foothills with Mt. Adams in the background.

We stopped at the Black Diamond Bakery once again before parting ways. This is the view from inside the restaurant. Mt. Rainer is dominant in the distance.

Obviously, Chuck could see the pictures. I can't. I did enjoy your pictures of your ride home from Spearfish over on the F800 Forum. Thanks for posting the link for us.

I went to the F800 Forum to see if I could find the pix of your Mt Rainier ride there. I found the post you made, but couldn't see the pictures there either. ????

I'm using the Chrome browser and I see a gray circle with a white horizontal bar in it's center where the picture should be. When I tried to download the picture, the tab in the lower left shows the filename with Failed - Forbidden under it.

I've looked at them with Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and whatever the new Microsoft browser is called (Bing?). Can't see them in any of them.

Hmmm...it'll be late Saturday before I can fix this. Sorry. I don't know what happened.

I'm headed off for a fly fishing and camping ride and will look into it when I get back. This link should give you access to all the pictures, not just the ones I have in the thread.
