When changing out the rear tire, inspect the drive splines and replace the forgotten 3 O rings. Most shops don't even carry the O rings so order them in before you do the tire change. Here are the part # and some pictures of the rings and where they go. Rear Wheel item 28 parts fiche PN#91302-MA6-003, Rear Wheel Item 29 parts fiche PN# 91358-MB0-000, Final Drive Item 35 parts fiche 91356-MB0-005

Good point, Chuck. Does the O ring in picture 386 just fit around that guide, or is there a channel for it to fit into? I didn't change the rings on my first tire change but I did slather a lot of moly lube on the splines.
There is a little channel that it fits into. I just left it out so it could be seen in the picture.

Chuck, is this a similar design to the ST1100?

In 60k miles on the ST1300 I've never replaced any of the o-rings but it's always been a known issue more with ST1100s, do you see that as a similar issue w/NTs?

Yes, it is identical design. The ST1100 and the NT700 have three O rings in the same positions. The ST1300 has only 2 O rings, as the final drive is completely different.

I still haven't changed them on mine. On third set of tires. Will have to look into it next time.

Thank you for bringing this up. I decided to put a new sticky tire on the rear (Pilot Road 3). So I decided to see if the dealer had the O-Rings and they did. So while I had the wheel off I replaced them and they needed it (Juliana has 30K on her). So for those of you who use bikebandit.com like I do for reference here is some additional information:

PN: 91358-MB0-000 bikebandit PN: 731179, illustration #29 under "Rear Wheel"
PN: 91356-MB0-005 bikebandit PN: 731157, illustration #35 under "Final Drive Gear"

Hope this helps.

The BikeBandit part numbers given by Michael (thanks Michael!) have what look like metric sizes associated with them, which are:

PN: 91302-MA-003 bikebandit PN: 730641, 61X2
PN: 91358-MB0-000 bikebandit PN: 731179, 46.5X3.5
PN: 91356-MB0-005 bikebandit PN: 731157, 35.2X2.4

The problem is, none of these sizes are "standard." Can anyone verify these sizes? The reason I ask is that the Honda prices are outrageous (as usual) and I would like to buy at least ten of each to have on hand, and standard sizes are available which I feel would work in each case. I plan on having this bike for a while!

Another question related to finding an equivalent "standard" size: from the pictures provided by Chuck it looks like all the o-rings are "static" rather than "dynamic" in that they are not required to provide a sliding seal . . . is this correct?

Thanks!

Billy, those are standard metric O-rings.

One of the pieces of equipment that I work on over here is a HEMTT (mil-speak for a BFT - Big Freakin' Truck) with a metric HIAB crane. "Standard" SAE O-rings will not work on the crane. They are either a tiny bit too big or a tiny bit too small.

The Honda rear wheel is not a critical app because you are not trying to seal oil under pressure.

Google "metric O-rings" and you will find plenty of places to order O-rings at industrial, meaning "generic", prices. It's like ordering bearings from a bearing supply place instead of a dealer.
