In your opinion, it may be over-engineered but I've yet to have trouble with the liquid cooling system on any of my bikes while on long trips or short rides. And would shutting off the rear cylinder of an air-cooled bike on a hot day while at a stop be considered over-engineering or is a band-aid applied to a known problem?
Having said that, you can ride whatever you want and keep happy!
