I just happened to remember my encounter with mutton when I saw the pic. Actually, it was a civilian cook at the Naval Hospital in San Diego. I escorted a prisoner over to the hospital for some tests and it was lunch time. They held him in their brig while I went to lunch. I used to always try to plan my trips to the hospital at mealtime as they had great food. Much better than Marine chow. Anyway, I'm going down the line and saw what appeared to be broiled steak... "now we're talking, I sez to myself".... I put one on my plate and sat down to eat and the first mouthful tasted like ammonia. I went back to the server and told him that there was something wrong with the steak and he said that it wasn't steak, it was mutton! Sure enough, right over the serving area was a label that said mutton. In my eagerness to chow down on steak I didn't see the label. Is that the ONLY thing that displeased you Mike? Did the Navy cooks serve that up for you? Somehow I think there must have been other things just as bad. Just saying.
