Rear brake light non-functional

My rear brake light appears to only work via the handbrake but not the foot brake. Can I assume then that the rear foot brake switch is broken? What part would that be?

Thanks

Most likely the switch position needs to be adjusted. The switch has threads on the body and mounts in an adjusting nut. The book says you need to move the master cylinder out of the way to get access, but I have not tried this myself. Turning the adjusting nut (not the switch body itself) should move the switch forward and back. It probably needs to be backed out a bit so the light comes on when pedal is first depressed, and before the brake actually starts to bite.

I adjusted my break light switch with out removing any thing when I lowered my pegs. How ever the bike was on the lift table and it was a real pain in the A--. I had to attack it from underneath the bike. I used some WD40 to clean/lube the switch housing and the adjusting nut and used a screw driver to turn the adjusting nut. Took a while but "Got Er Done"
