If you want to add a farkle and feel like also adding a relay, go ahead and do it. Study this diagram a couple times, and it'll all make sense.

Most of the switched wires in the bike's wiring aren't sized to carry the current to actually power the additional stuff, so just splicing the accessory wiring into the stock harness will cause problems. Using a relay allows you to pick a switched wire anywhere in the bike, and use it to turn off your accessory when the bike turns off, while getting the actual power to run the accessory straight from the battery.
