I just finished my first farkle,
Installing the saddlemen top case from motorcycle superstore (on sale now $130.99)
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.co...-HC2900-Hard-Case-Trunks.aspx?WT.ac=SLIsearch
I followed the how to in this forum except I used 3/8ths outdoor plywood instead of aluminum. It cost 15 bucks and consisted of hardware, electrical tape, spray paint and 3 power tools. It took about 6 hours. THe hardest part was getting the shim thickness right under the black plastic piece with "nt700v" written on. I finally used some garden hose washers to squish down and you could say its rubber mounted!
The Saddlemen topcase comes with a plate that allows quick removal. I spaced it off the "deck " of plywood with some orphaned nuts off a 1996 yamaha seca ii centerstand. All the bolts are 5/16-18 with the exception of the two 8mm x 1.25 bolts that go in the original threads that came on the bike.
I used tee nuts
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=1592 to bolt on the adapter plate that came with the topcase.
