There's an LD rider down in Texas who has mounted a FLIR to his bike:

Looks like he has solved the "critter on the road at night" problem.

Pretty cool. The advantage over just more lights is spotting critters in the foliage off the side of the road.

Another potential advantage is in fog. This stuff is being used in aircraft and will normally show the runway environment quite usably when still a couple of miles out in the clouds.

Wait about 10 years. Remember how (comparatively) primitive and expensive GPS receivers were 10 years ago?

Plus $3k more on a rally equipped Gold Wing or BMW K-GT only adds about 10% to the overall cost. OTOH, for us peons on lesser bikes, $3k = about 20% or more plus.
