windshield lubing

Hey y'all does anyone have a quick and easy way to lube the windshield adjustment slot thanx jt

Best method I found, having recently performed this procedure is to remove the windshield. Remove the rubber covers on the outside of the windshield to access the mounting screws. Then remove the rubber slot protectors to gain access to the tracks. I then used a WD-40 product, "Specialist White Lithium Grease (long-lasting)" in a spray can with a straw applicator, to spray into the track and the sliding windshield mounts. Run the sliding mounts up and down a few times to distribute the white grease evenly and to ensure ease of motion. Reassemble in reverse.

Pro tip: Clean the tracks prior to remove old/dirty lube. Brake or carb cleaner may be a good cleaning agent, but be careful of drips onto paint or other sensitive parts.

I just use silicone spray lube. I don't disassemble anything, just stick the straw in the slot and lube. Then work the windshield up/down a time or two and you are good. I have never cleaned the mechanism but I suspect a good cleaning that Fieroguy recommended would be helpful.

I have kept mine lubed over the years but they have become increasingly difficult to slide up and down

I have taken the windscreen and cowlings off twice in 125,000 miles to work on the dash. Whilst it's off I clean and lube the mechanism. In between, when the windscreen starts to become a little stiff to move, I just stick the straw of the white grease canister into the slot, locate the slider and squirt a small amount. Move the screen up and down a few times to lubricate the mechanism.

What I have noticed is that you do need to clean the mechanism properly, i.e. take the windscreen and cowl off, every 50,000 - 60,000 miles (depending on the air quality and amount of dust in your region) as the "grunge" builds up over time and needs removing.

I've found that if I make it too slippery, the windshield starts to drop gradually as I'm riding.

There ya go ! Mine has never been apart in the 92K miles that are on it now. When it got difficult to move up or down, I did what Mike did, accept I gave it a short spray at the upper end through the slot and then worked it up and down. I've only had to do that about 4 times in those 92K miles because the 2nd time was too soon and it got too slick like DirtFlier noted and would slip down, mostly when I would put the bike cover on.

I just use silicone spray lube.

Seems wise, water resistant and won't attract/accumulate much dust & grime over the miles/years... (like in the pannier lid locking mechanism)
It will further also not harm the plastic rails like some petroleum based lubricants could...

While upgrading my GF's '07 NT700VA to the windscreen sliders, I applied a dab of silicone grease inside each rail, works like a charm...
