Counterfeit auto parts have been around a long time, but I just learned that NGK/NTK has learned that their line of Iridium spark plugs are being counterfeited. They report that electrode failure has resulted in several instances of engine failure where they have been installed. NGK/NTK cautions their customers to buy their products from reputable parts stores and to beware of exceptionally low prices. They have published a website which shows how to detect the counterfeit plugs. Sadly, because many retailers sell their parts on Amazon, I would be cautious of purchasing NGK/NTK products from them as they have no way to vet their retailers and ensure that they are selling authentic NGK/NTK products.
