Japan and Vietnam

Well, since the introduction of catalytic converters and unleaded fuel way back in the 80ies, everyone asks himself when they'd finally ban the dreaded two-stroke engines spreading dioxins by burning their lubricant unfiltered... 🤔
And IIRC did Honda invent a 2-stroke CAT but got turned down over the added costs...
 
I don't think that the Vietnamese government has really thought this through. If the government bans gas powered motorbikes how do they expect the citizens to get around? Rich suggests bicycles but they are not an adequate substitute for a gas powered motorbike. We have all seen the pics of the family on the motorbike with a crate of chickens tied onto the handlebars. You can't do that with your Schwinn! The motorbike manufacturers of course would suffer, but the overall Hanoi economy would collapse as well. That presumes of course that the motorbike riders choose to obey the law. Judging from the pic the Coyote posted, the law would be very hard to enforce. An e-bike solution is of course a possibility but what of the infrastructure need for charging? Does Vietnam have the surplus generation capacity to handle the horde of e-bikes? If not, what is the cost not only in construction but also to the environment? This reminds me of the politicians who mandated that the US ban the sale of fossil fueled vehicles by 2035. That sure worked out well, didn't it?

An ELECTRIC ONLY edict was issued for the US and most of Europe. Not going to happen. Who wants a Tesla with that Christine Complex?
Anyone want an EV from General Junk and Merry Berry? I have a hybrid Ford Maverick. It's a fun experimental toy, but ready for prime time. Today, I drove it 20 miles and parked it for 3 hours. On restart, I had a shiny red icon on the dash and a warning to PARK THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Screw that. I drove the truck a couple of miles, parked in a store parking lot, went shopping. Half hour later, I started it, and the warning was gone.The warning light meant that there was a a FAILURE in the HIGH VOLTAGE circuit. NO, THERE WAS NOT. Just a failure in the FORD brain. Like a cheap computer, all it needed was a few minutes rest and a reboot (restart). Next vehicle . . . TOYOTA. I have a RAV4 ( I need something dependable when the Ford does actually go belly up) and have had a Matrix and a Camry. Never had a warning light nor a failure of any kind.
That 100% EV but 2035? Not going to happen.

gasoline 1.8ltr 7AFE engine, currently >211,000miles/338,000km on...

Yeah... wanna do something for the environment? Bring back building things that last ...
And not that stupid new culture that you have to buy a new phone/PC/tablet every 3 months, a new TV/appliance every 6 months, a new car every year... :rolleyes:
