With new tires, shaft splines greased, fresh oil & filter, air filter, and a quick check of coolant, etc. my son and I departed western WV on July 23rd to embark on a 16 day journey into the northeast part of the country on two lane highways, where neither of us had been on two wheels. The farthest I had ever been on the motorcycle was northeastern PA and the Finger Lakes region of NY. Of course there were stops every night but won't go into those. The trip took us through the WV mountains on US Rt.50 then north through only a 2.5 mi section of MD (thank goodness), then northeast through PA where we met up with our ole' NT friend Fieroguy and enjoyed a great lunch and some great conversation. Larry has made several trips to OH and WV to our small Gathering many times. It was great to see Larry and glad my son got to meet him. So we let Larry led us on a peaceful country ride through a small section of NJ and into NY east of Port Jarvis, where we parted and maintained a NE route into CT and in a few miles north again into MA. When we reached Route 9 in VT we turned our route easterly into NH toward Dover, NH then northeast again just into Maine where we met another ole' NT friend Rob, who was part of the original eastern NT gathering crew back in 2013. We spent some time over lunch and conversation with Rob before starting our northerly route to Brunswick, ME where we picked up US1. Spent 3 days around Acadia National Park then off again to the eastern most point of the US, then north along the Canadian Border to the top of Maine ( Four Corners Park ), one of the 4 corners of the US. then to Fort Kent and the beginning of Highway 1. Our trip then took us south to Millinocket, ME where we rode 14 miles of dirt road to get to a fantastic view and found out after returning to our camp at Millinocket that it was illegal to ride our motorcycles to Abol Bridge for that photo. Whoops, we didn't see any signs along that route so who knew. Our trip then took us around Moosehead Lake to Jackman and Moose River, ME in search of Moose. Hwy 201 is called Moose Alley, however we saw no live moose on the entire trip.
When we reached the Rangeley Lakes we made our way in a loop into NH again for a stay near Mount Washington. We gave up our camping for a night at the Omni Resort Mount Washington ( WOW ! ). The next day was a fabulous day for a ride up Mount Washington. An employee up there told us that may have been the best day so far this year. We were blessed. We spent 3 days in that area before starting our way through upstate VT and upstate NY through Lake Placid and the Adirondack Mountains before dropping into the Finger Lakes region of NY, where my son had never been. 3 nights camping and riding near Watkins Glenn and then back through northern PA, the northern tip of WV into Ohio and back to our home just across the Ohio river in western WV. 16 days, 3900 miles, and more smiles and memories than I can explain.
The ole' NT started the trip with just short of 103K miles and now sits at 106700+ miles with no issues.
