I went to the Charlotte AutoFair yesterday with a friend. He is looking for an old 50's pickup for tooling around in and much to my surprise they had a 1975 GL1000 on display. But more exciting than that was a 1976 GL1000 LTD still in the crate!

The crate can be seen in the picture behind the 1975 GL1000.

My goal is ultimately own and restore a 75 or 76 GL1000. Just waiting on the funds to be available.

Is it?.... I would have opened that up and stuck some junkyard bike and just let people think it was still in there.. vrooom vrooom... wonder what they could sell that for, I'd love one.

Wonder if any of these bikes came from GN Gonzales?
George was notorious for hoarding certain motorcycle in his warehouses, keeping them in their original crates. And would rarely sell any of them. George was at one time the largest distributor of Honda products in the eastern U.S.
After his death in 2010, his children sold off his private collection and many if not all of the "uncrated" bikes.
The story I got from a friend that used to sell bikes there, said a couple of folks from out of state came in and bought up all the collectible motorcycles with cash. A briefcase full!

Out of curiosity, what would be the MSRP on the 1976 Honda GL in the crate??? Did they bring it to sell it??

The MSRP on the new 1975 Goldwing was $2,890.

We had just paid $1,650 for our new 1974, K4 CB750's.

A near new 1975 Goldwing with only 28 miles on it just sold in an auction for $25,000. I would think the new one in the crate could bring 30+++.

Sam:)

YIKES! Makes me wonder how much $$$$$'s George's kids got on the bikes he still had in crates in his warehouses.
Some one from out of state came in with a briefcase full of cash and bought them all.
