chains

dang.. but how old is the sprocket?
Sorry Mellow...my bad.....13,000 miles. Original chain and sprockets. Trying to figure out in another 13 k if things look worse if I learn how to use a staking tool or use a chain with a break away pin final link......

Vstrom at 13,100 mi. Not really clean yet but I was about to loose the sun. Thanks to Chuck Henderson for his cleaning meathod.

Your chain & sprockets are too clean. Mine will never look like that.
As far as that goes the rest of my bike isn't all that shiny either.

I ordered two cans of that Dupont stuff just to give it a try.

There are lots of negative thoughts about chains but once you get accustomed to the maintenance, it isn't that bad - even on multi-day trips. Obviously a centerstand is necessary and I bring some paper towels with me or snag lots of napkins from my lunch stops at Subway. And having vinyl gloves with you and kept in a plastic bag is necessary so they can be reused is important.

I do agree that having a bike with shaft drive makes life a lot easier but sometimes we just have to accept change. :)
