How do I take off the original windshield?

My cee baily +4 showed up in the mail today and when I went to put it on, there was black goop covering the windshield bolts? How do I get it off? If the black goop is important' how do I get it back on?

Are you looking at the windshield bolts from behind the windshield, or in front of it? The bolts come out the front. I don't know what's on the other end of them; it doesn't matter. There's a soft black rubber sheath on each side, that stretches to come off. Just pull it up to stretch and unhook it from the top edge, and the rest peels away with no difficulty. (And it stretches to go back on with no tools and no difficulty either.) Then the bolts are exposed and they come off the front. If you have the sheaths pulled off and you see black goop on the windshield bolts, that's NOT stock and I would just get it off however I had to, and replace the bolts as needed.

the black goop you see is on the back side of the windshield mounting bracket bolts. no need to do anything to them. you leave them alone!!!!
work from the front of the windshield only.
