I am going to suggest you check to see if the radiator fins and tubes are not clogged with debris blocking airflow. I cleaned the radiator on my NT regularly, it seemed to accumulate dead bugs and dandelion fluff.

I don't really remember my NT putting out excess heat from the vents, but the Y-pipe did kind of cook my right foot on hot days, especially if the wind was from the left side of the bike.

One would assume that with a partially blocked radiator, the temp gauge needle might read a little higher than normal. Unless it's a really hot day or I'm in stop-n-go traffic, the needle on my NT always rides just a hair above the 1/4 mark. :)
