Can you go into more detail about the pieces you added to the 3/4" tubing to hold it in place?put a 3/4" stainless tubing through the hole and added some cheap hardware and end caps. Looks good (mostly hidden with top box on), work fine for me.

I took my tubing piece to a local Ace Hardware that has small hardware bits in bins (not like Home Depot or Lowes) and plowed thru stuff until I found what would work. The Shaft Collars keep the tubing in place and are spaced wide enough on each side to fit a 1 1/2" wide strap.
