When I bought my NT used it came with an approx. 9" long light weight cable, looped on both ends and covered with black plastic tubing. I have no idea what this is.

It's called a helmet set wire.

Used to lock helmets to hook under seat.

While it is pretty useless for securing a helmet it is also used to "hang" the gas tank during servicing.....

It doesn't look like a Honda part. It looks like, "Oops, we forgot the helmet hanger, let's make one real quick." That's a good suggestion to use it for the gas tank.

It's not likely that I'll ever use the cable for its intended purpose. It's only utilized when securing 2 helmets.

I recently put a helmet lock on the handlebars that works quite nicely.
