I knew it! I just knew it! If I kept ridin', I "knew" one day I would catch up to Rust, Woodaddict and Phil and the mileage tracker now confirms that I am now tied wif 'em in the top 0%!

Life is good!

I only have 91,000 miles to go. At 10,000 miles a year it will take me 9 years to get it done. That will put me at 83. What a challenge for me.

Just sat down and did a rough calculation. Since I started riding in 1966 I have ridden around 80,000 miles on six different motorcycles. Forty nine years to get 80,000 miles. Of the 49 years, I had a motorcycle to ride for only say 30 of those years.
That would average close to 2,700 miles per year.
I could get maybe, maybe if health and circumstances allow, 100,000 miles in my lifetime! No competition from me for top dog in the mileage "race".

Since you guys brought up Motto miles ridden. Just saying. My first three years of my riding career (1982 thru 1985) I totaled only 13,000 miles. Up until the time I retired I was riding about 10 to 15k miles a year. Since I retired on 1 Oct 2009 thru today, I have 167,000 motorcycles miles. But I also noticed, this year, my milage has been dropping off, as the long multi-state rides just are not as appealing as they once were. Maybe because I can scratch the itch on my local day rides here in Colorado. I guess I have reached my peak and am on the down side. :)

I'm within 300 miles of 300,000 miles (on bikes of my own) since I bought my '83 GL650i Silverwing in March of '98. I put 19,700 on the Silverwing, 115K on the first '99 Concours, 50K on the second one, and 115K on the NT. Even when I was working, I managed to average 15K+ a year, and then in '13, the year I retired, I got a bit over 35,000.

I think Mike is alluding to this (Mileage Tracker):

NT-Owners

Okay here's my end of the year pictures last year. NT700V 84,903
.
CRF250L 11,018
.
And here's some mileage odometer photo's from tonight. NT700V 128,078
.
CRF250l 14,406
.

My math might be wrong but I think that adds up to 46,563 miles as of November 29, 2015.

Edit: I don't change my motorcycles clock in the winter.

Wow. Some of you guys get a lot of miles in. So far I've done pretty good I guess, since I started riding in 2008:

1. Suzuki GS500F, 15,000, Apr 2008 to Dec 2010
2. Honda NT700V, 72,000, Dec 2010 to Nov 2015
3. Honda GL1800, 200, Just acquired

How are you liking the Wing? Is your wife riding with you?

I like it lot. It may sove the height problem I have due to being 5'6" not 6'5". I could only tip toe the NT (with predictable results) while I can (almost) flat foot the Wing. That said, I have LOT to learn about riding a heavy motorcycle. I will definitely take the AMA Advanced Rider course soon and I would like to take Ride Like a Pro also.

The engine is turbine smooth and delivers gobs (a technical term) of torque. Second gear starts from a stop are no problem. The dealer said a lot of Wing riders do that because first gear can be a bit twitchy. I have found first useful only for getting moving with the bike wanting second pretty quickly. Fifth gear is an overdrive but there is so much torque that accelerating in fifth is no issue. The ride is very smooth witout some of the "freeway hop" I got witht he NT. Still working on windshield height.

Lucy has not ridden yet. She wants me to carry another passenger first. My brother has graciously volunteered. I want to get a few hundred miles under me before crossing that line.

So far I think this will be a very good ride for me. I was another case of now or never (like riding at all) as we are not getting any younger (ha ha).

Hope all is well with you,

Chuck

Hope all is well with you,
All is very well with me, Chuck. Don't know when I'll get back to your part of the world. It might be in '16, if my high school class has a 55th reunion. Enjoy the Wing!
