Mileage of front rotors? (European conditions...)

The NT700 I'd gotten my GF with 37,000km/23K-miles on, had already a set of rather new (3rd party) front rotors installed... could the OEM ones have actually been worn down by then?!

I get like 80~90,000km/56K-miles out the front rotors on my ST1100... a 312kg/700lbs rig that does see a bit more action with my riding style... 🤔
(juST replaced the rear rotor at >100,000km/>60K-miles...)
 
I still had the original rotors on Dudley when I traded him in with 138,814 miles on the clock. To have worn down the OEM rotors in 23,000 miles sounds unlikely to me.
 
... I would have expected so, just wasn't sure if they'd used some super soft alloy only for some PR-stunt sowing spectacular stopping distances in the glossy folders to show (as they do in the car industry...)
Despite that it seems that the PO had it parked outside, the rotors should have lasted 50K-miles at least...
It also had aftermarket pads installed (+ inner and outer pad reversed on both calipers :rolleyes:)

So why were they replaced? 🤔
cosmetic reasons (rust), one suffering a crack, forgetting to detach a disk-lock prior take-off... ?

Different geology, riding terrain, riding style, etc... cannot be compared...
Like with tires (there even legal issues...) we see about 1/2 of your mileage on wear-parts... which is why I included [European conditions] in the header 😏
 
Some (most?) of the aftermarket brake pads do a great job of stopping but often increase wear on the rotors by a significant amount. They are typically lower priced than genuine Honda pads but I much prefer the latter.

And you're correct about riding and weather conditions in Europe being quite different than here in the US although some areas of the US probably receive more rain.
 
I'm at 125K on the OE rotors and both are still within spec. I know the UK has a very harsh, corrosive environment, I don't know if Europe is as bad.

Flier, I've got 28K miles on my OEM pads and the bike stops fine, no chatter or squeaks. Should I replace them? I plan to take the bike in for service (Have Service Contract for valve adjustment, etc.) I could have them replace the pads since I plan to keep the bike another 10 years--if I live that long.
 
There's no reason to replace them, Bear. You've got at least that many more miles...unless you've started riding like your hair's on fire.
 
Just replaced the front rotors and pads at 48,000 miles. One disc felt groovy and slightly uneven with a fingernail drag test. Sorry, didn't get too anal and measure it, but my front brakes were grabby and I couldn't modulate the braking like I remember. It was an opportune time with the front tire and fork oil replacement due. Total for Honda pads and disc was ~$200, so, why not replace them. With new tire, fork oil, pads, disc... brakes feels great again. Good to be confident with the brakes again.
 
Well, as said did my GF's NT700 come with aftermarket rotors (& pads)... 36000km/22.5K-miles on the clock... 🤔
Weary about aftermarket parts I switched to OEM pads right away, now (47000km/30Kmiles) the front brakes start to squeak noticeable right before coming to full stop (last 1/4 rotation)...
So I just placed the order for OEM front rotors as well, this should cure the issue...
 
My rotors were replaced at 170,000 km. I replace the pads every 12,000 km....
