Riding weather

Happy Birthday Bear. Enjoy the day.
I am about to turn 65 so young by NT700 standards but not quite like when I was younger.
Certainly not complaining, Life Is Good and I get reminded of that fact pretty regularly.

I spent a night with Bear at a motel in Old Town, ME, and then he rode with me to Madawaska, where we spent another night together. On my way back south after the provinces, I spent a night with him in Belfast and got a great tour of an interesting town. Well worth visiting!

Happy birthday, old man!

A week ago there were several people out with their bikes--mostly Harleys. Then came the snow. I did one snow removal with the snow blower and it really did a job on my back, so I decided that snow removal was not in the books but four wheel drive was. I can get in and out of the garage easily with the Ranger. It has enough ground clearance to get through. The berm left by the snow plow has not been a problem yet. I don't want to jeopardize my back because I really want to ride this season.

Snow removal is what kids is for! Hire one and save your back.

Ha! Those were the days! Good luck finding a kid willing to shovel snow, mow lawns, paint, etc. Back when I was a young whipper-snapper we would canvas the neighborhood with shovels over our shoulder after every snow storm, knocking on doors, offering to shovel snow for a few bucks. Heck, sometimes we'd make $10 or $20!!! I may sound like I'm getting old by saying that, but I haven't had a kid knock on my door offering to shovel snow... ever. Here's to 4 wheel drive. Save your back, Bear!

We've had 3 days in the upper 60s and the frozen snow in front of my house has melted enough that I can finally move my Accord. It's been stuck in the snow bank since before Thanksgiving. My back could probably handle some digging, but my legs and knees sure couldn't.

I had planned on getting my first ride in but my daughter-in-law's mother died on Sunday and I'm preaching on this Sunday. Today Joanne and I drove to Colorado Springs for the funeral, two receptions and then back.

Bless her heart; Joanne woke me up at 4am because she thought I had planned on us leaving the house at 5am. I had planned on leaving at 7! Naturally I couldn't go back to sleep and she'd been awake since 3am. We got away at 7, but after the first hour and ten minutes we'd only covered 30 miles of the 127 miles to the church. But we made it to the church on time!

It was nice this past weekend and I rode around 300-miles with temps on both days in the 60s. This morning, the forecast used the "S-word" and I thought naah that can't be true. Well it started snowing large flakes about 2-hours ago and it's still coming down! The depth of the snow is going to be measurable and not just a light dusting.

I might have to cancel the ride we'd planned for tomorrow.

Yesterday, I took my NC700XD off the bike lift/parking space and gave it a good bath, cleaned the chain, etc. In its place, the NT700V went onto the lift because it needs a new fork seal on the right side so I'm going to do both sides. A few years ago the left side was leaking so I only replace that one side which I wondered about and now it comes back to bite me! Every other time I always did both sides if one side was leaking and I'll return to that practice again.

In the late-afternoon the temp rose into the 60s so I took the NC for a short ride. I actually wanted it to be a long ride but the damn wind was just too strong so I turned 'around and headed home after 25 miles. The wind seems calm today so I'll take another ride after lunch. :)

DirtFlier, if you added Triumph fork gaitors to your NT, your seals would last a lot longer. :)

Ha...ha... I've had those Triumph gaiters on my NT from around 2012-13? :)

We've had 3 days of nice weather. S'posed to get 4" of snow tonight. I've been busy with doctor and work-related stuff and still haven't managed to get my first ride of the year. Maybe next week?
