A local fella was selling a new Bridgestone BATTLAX T30 EVO front tire, 20/70ZR17, for $60. SCORE! I'll probably need it in a year.

What's the date code? They haven't been made in a few years. I was buying them as closeout surplus 4 years ago. I think the codes I saw then was 2018 at the latest.

yes...very important to not use a (new) tire which has been stored for years...it could end up being a fatal choice...I may decide to do this on my 4 wheeler but I need all the safeguards I can get with the motorcycle!

If you are a motorcyle rider you would average appx 5000 miles per year and a rear tire should give you about 10000 miles so given that theory any used tire will only be a couple of years old when it is totally trash...so you can eliminate a good used tire..If you find a (New) tire at a swap meet you can only believe what the seller tells you...In my experience over the years most all of my biker friends who had a spare tire ,stored them in less than ideal conditions in the roof space or the concrete floor of their sheds or garages...you make your choice...$100 bucks for the new (OLD) tire or $150.00 for the NEW tire...there again Burt Monroe had no problem exceeding 200 MPH on Bonneville Salt Flats with god knows what kind of tire on his Indian....

Not that I think I will keep us this course, but in the 9 weeks I've been on this bike, I've put 2,900 miles on it. I expect I'll put 7 - 10 k miles a year on it while I'm healthy. I also think the storage life of tires is set by lawyers trying to avoid legal risk.
