I rode the bike to meet with the saints this morning. I take some county roads that are fun. I was behind a car as we entered a sweeping left/right combination. The cage slowed WAY down through both turns. As we cleared the turn there was a passing zone. As I accelerated past the cage, it sped up to keep me from pulling back into the lane. At 90 MPH the cage backed down and I was able to get over.

He got up on my tail for a few miles, then backed off. Then close - with passing zones available but not taken. 10 miles later, going through a small community at 45, in no passing zone, the cage pulls around me and blows down the road at 60 MPH or so.

10 miles down the road, its pulled into a gas station.

SMH.

Yes, crazy and you don't have to look hard to see this type of behavior all over the place.
Did you ever think about how crazy we are to be out there with them unprotected on 2 wheels?

That comment doesn't make sense, in the context of what happened.
It makes perfect sense. YOU were very foolish. You were lucky you didnt draw bullets. 90 mph? Really? Never confront an aggressive driver , but especially on a bike. Let it go. These people dont care if they kill you or themselves. It doesnt matter who "engaged" who to them. You are just as dead. Right and wrong are meaningless when you are in a coma.
As I said many times before, I asked my state patrol Capt how to handle tail gaiters...he said for God sake, dont tap your brake lights...it draws bullets (is in over 20 years ago) keep slowing gently down till you find a safe place to pull off where there are people and lights. Hopefully, he will pass you. Jungle Jim and Mellow are right. We understand having a sense of right and wrong. We also understand what crashes have done to our friends.

Don't bring a motorcycle to a car fight.
Rather: don't let yourself getting dragged into situations you're not +100% in control of... ;)

People are weird, totally, and at an increasing rate during the past few decades... 🤔
be it not having a life, testosterone (or estrogen) induced, unhappy marriages/relations, envious, ethnic/cultural background, or just entitled, egocentric & ignorant by birthright...

You don't know what's going on with people, until they start acting out...

When I encounter a skittish individual, its important to not let myself being provoked... getting 'emotional' on the throttle rarely ends well...
So I'm lingering, observing until there is a situation providing my full advantage, take them completely surprised, where they have no change to hinder, block or give me any trouble...
and leave them behind... fuming... ;)

We stand apart on this. No bullets in this area - we ain't in the city where truly brainless people congregate.

I had one do a maneuver recently that left me baffled.

Passing through OK-city at like 2am. 4 lane stretch of I-40. Essentially nobody else around. I'm in 2nd to right lane maintaining speed minding my own business. Cager comes up behind, gets over to the left like making a pass. Comes up alongside me, puts their right blinker on and starts merging into my lane. I guess they want the exit coming up?. I don't slam on the brakes, I don't gun it. Just lay on the horn. They cancel the merge and end up driving alongside me for what seemed like an eternity.

It's like they had to dust off the neuron receptors on how to process what to do. They end up getting on the brakes and slowing down, and merging over. Drunk? Tired? No idea, but their lane positioning seemed smooth. All that road real estate of no other vehicles and the only option to get to their exit was attempt a merge through a motorcycle. SMH..

Don't forget drugs. (I love you mentioned entitled....can anyone mention famous athletes who disreguard traffic laws and crash into people?) There is an old motorcycle book that reccommends you "retreat gracefully". Live to ride another day. Others may say, "fight or flight". What hill are you willing to die on?
The people of the state of WA have deemed to defund the police...enact laws hindering law enforcement...thin out the troops..."
  • Washington: Historically has the lowest ratio in the nation; as of early 2025, its rate fell to 1.37 officers per 1,000 residents."
.but the police are seldom there when you are attacked anyway.
I do carry a donor card on my donercycle.

They didnt teach us this stuff in drivers Ed school. They taught us who is in the right. Now WA is a "no fault" state. WTH?

Texas isnt any protection against road rage. No where is safe.

We had an interesting but not uncommom case in Spokane 5 days ago.....
Dogma bit their karma.

In the west, you see people who are merging onto the Interstate that actually believe they have the right of way over you , when you are just driving/riding in the right lane. Its like a game of chicken.

I have ridden from Maine to California. But not in the deep south. But remember, not all the people you will encounter are from Texas. Mellow, any road rage in Texas? (Remember, the Houston people can also drive to your area. )

Road rage in Texas is a severe, rising safety issue, with 96% of Texas drivers reporting participation in aggressive driving behaviors in 2025. Houston is ranked as a top city for road rage, often involving shootings, speeding, and tailgating. New Texas laws passed in 2025 increase penalties for gun-related road rage to potential life sentences.

Key Aspects of Texas Road Rage
  • High Incidence Rates: Aggressive driving is common, with studies indicating high rates of tailgating, speeding, and cutting off other vehicles, often triggered by heavy traffic or honking.
  • Violent Escalation:Texas has a high incidence of road rage incidents involving guns, sometimes leading to fatalities
    .
    • Legal Consequences: While "road rage" is not a specific statute, acts are prosecuted as assault, disorderly conduct, or aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
    • New Legislation (2025): A new law effective Sept 1, 2025, toughens penalties for shooting into or toward an occupied vehicle, raising, for example, the risk of significant prison time (5 years to life).

Texas is a rather large state. Harris County (Houston) is 300 miles east of me. This is not where they go on leisure drives.

Must be different than WA. People come from all over to Spokane...even from Seattle and Missoula. But it would seem you did find road rage. In the center of WA state..in sleepy Othello, a teen out of control slammed into a pickup truck and rolled it, killing 3...and kept going. I have certainly seen it in nowhere, anywhere. Though I freely admit to it being more common in Urban areas.

it IS different here. I've been up there, my son lived in Everette for many years.

Washington state is ranked among the worst in the U.S. for drivers, placing 5th worst nationally in the 2025 LendingTree report due to a high rate of accidents, and 2nd worst in the 2026 WalletHub study regarding overall driving conditions. Key issues include 24.8 accidents per 1,000 drivers and poor rankings in ownership costs and infrastructure.
That goes along with the low number of law enforcement folk as well as lienient sentencing.
But you cant relax anywhere. I had a six pack of empty beer bottles thrown into the path of my bike by a passing car in rural Illinois for no reason. I have run into crazy drivers in the Middle of Montana and Wisconsin.
