Bike
10 Red NT 14 FJR, 17 XT
Triump has introduced a sport touring bike for under $15,000. (empire cycle price) Heated grips, cruise control, center stand, full luggage. Standard tranny. 515 lbs.

The NT 1100 is very compareable with a price of $12,000 plus 700 pirate fee and /or setup? And of course you need bags. But its heavier and has a DCT, which is no plus for me.
The Triump price is pretty amazing when you consider to get a cruise control on Frosty's bike NOW means buying a Tiger GT Pro, for $17,000 plus you need all the panniers and crash bars.
Doesnt look like crash bars roll bars sliders are available from Triump for the 800 tour. Still, the NT is gonna weight 546 lb PLUS the luggage vs 515 for the triump. Take off the silly top box from the Triump and you could be looking at a 50 lb difference.
For me, if the NT came in a standard tranny version here (rumors at the rally are its coming to Canada) It would be a tough choice. And the standard tranny is lighter.
Untill then, its my XT or

31 in seat height. Easy to paddle. 526 lbs sans light luggage. Heated grips. Bar risers, bar end throttle lock. Sliders. Tall screen and lip. The most I have done is 526 mi in one day. 104 HP is enough IMHO. Also like the combo steam gages and digital readoutss. THIS bike is going no where....the FJr? We shall see.

The Tiger is an in-line triple. Love that design.
I have to say the two I have ridden were very smooth. Not as smooth as my V4 but very smooth and well mannored. I think Triump is doing a hail mary with this bike. It is priced $2500 less than it should be and is a great light weight tourer with all the bells and whistles one needs.

I had 2 Yamaha triples. Smoother than my R80RT and Sabre 700.

That Tiger Sport is a way different bike than the Tiger dual sports. 5” shorter wheel base and a steeper head angle. Different wheel sizes too. I’ll bet it’s a hoot to ride but not as stable.

Frosty also reports it has a funky cruise control. If I understand him, when you want to go 60 mph, you go sixty and turn it on. If you want to go a different speed, you turn it off, go the new speed, and turn it on. Completeely unacceptable.

That’s not the way mine works.

With mine it takes two “sets” to turn it on.
Press cruise button
Press “set”
Press cruise button again
Press “set”
It will then set to current speed
Click up or down for 1 mph adjustments
Once set use the set button to reset speed to current speed.

I won’t be without cruise ever again. Love it.

You are correct for the upper end Triumps.
I myself today saw the el cheapo version. One button and one button only. No rocker...no plus or minus....

Well Well Well... LOL...

That's cool @junglejim , curious to see what you think. I still like my RT a lot even though the GSA is getting more usage this past couple of years... I can't see letting either one of them go...
Actually, the GS has more appeal to me over the GSA but you are still young.

I like the 7.9 gallon fuel tank... I try to stop ever 200 miles but it's nice to have that extra... plus, if you add some of the stuff included in the regular one the price is really close. I also got the low suspension otherwise it would be out of my height-range.

Congrats, JJ!! Two bikes I've always wanted but never owned and I guess never will..... BMW and Guzzi

Mike
Don’t give up Mike. That’s what I thought too. I’ve wanted an RT for many years. I kind of gave up. But when I rode this bike I was hooked. It is a game changer for me.

But I’m struggling with the complexity and technology. However I was told that would happen, so my struggles are common to new BMW owners. I’m taking the bike in for the 500 mile check up in about 10 days so I’ll get some more instruction then. So far I can start the motor, change ride modes, raise/lower the windscreen, and set the cruise. Changing from “manual” to “automatic” is easy (there’s one button for that).

But in the meantime I occasionally get the split screen, the radio, a blank navigation screen, and a whole bunch of “you can’t do that - stupid” messages. Maybe I’ll spend some more time searching on “YouTube University” for instructions.
