I live in N.C. where the Summer temps. are often 90+ and I find that when the temp. reaches 80 I am unable to open the RH pannier and would break something if I try to force it open.
It’s very frustrating when it gets hot.
Heat expanding something I guess but any ideas?

Are you pushing in on the pannier to relieve the pressure as you try to open it?
If you haven't done so I would clean the latch mechanisms up and lube them with graphite based lube.
Around here a pannier that can't be opened above 80 deg is pretty much useless.

Arknt,

Thanks for the reply.
I can push the pannier as you describe to no avail———it really is impossible to open without breaking something i.e. the opening lever.
The only thing I can do is take the seat off and operate the opening mechanism by hand.
An absolute pain.
I feel sure that some form of expansion is happening when it gets hot.

I have seen a photo of an NT 700 V where a guy fitted 2 clasps ( if that’s what they are called) to close his RH pannier.
Does anyone know where it is as he also posted where he got the small clasps from?
Thanks.

This thread is the biggest and most info https://www.nt-owners.org/forums/threads/improved-pannier-latches.12000/ Brillot2000 is member name. You can get those latches in many different manufactures, and slightly different shapes
Woodaddict———-thanks for the reply. I’ve had no end of problems with the RH pannier——-all the plastic disintegrated where the 2 latches are located in the lid but not only that, the plastic disintegrated in the main body where the opening mechanism screws to.
I’ve repaired them both umpteen times and have now given up fixing them.
I had to wave the white flag.
Again, thank you.

Mine fell apart and I ended up cutting a lot of the inner pannier plastic away and attaching Givi brackets and side cases. https://www.nt-owners.org/forums/threads/after-market-saddlebags.14758/#post-200820
