2025 U.S. speedo error

I put a speedo app on my phone and it shows 1 - 2 mph over the bike speedo. Bottom to top, the entire speed range. I have a similar post on another site and so far the count is two U.S. concur, two Euro with the expected 8% deviation. Need more input.

I'm not sure how much faith I'd place on phone speedo apps. I've seen Google Maps lose me on my phone claiming I was doing 40 while flying down the Interstate much faster. You have a friend or family member who can pace you in a modern cage? If the difference is only like 1 or 2 mph.. I'm not sure what the concern is?

No concern, definitely curious. I’ve checked a few Japan bike speedos in the past and all were optimistic at freeway speeds and the opposite at low speed, definitely not linear, with the crossover being at about 50 mph. Your lag with Google maps may be bandwidth - the maps needing to load on the fly, unlike Zumo and speed apps I’ve used.

Use a standalone GPS, more accurate than phone speedo

I've owned over 2 dozen Hondas. Most were overly optimistic at highway speeds, usually ~5 mph over actual. My NT700V was actually one of the most accurate at higher speeds.

Find a LEO running radar and ask him/her if he/she wouldn't mind checking your speedo error.

My NT has the most accurate speedo of any of the bikes I've ever owned. Dead on with either of my two Garmin GPS's, which are very accurate as Woodaddict mentioned. My Harley, with new tires, shows 2mph faster than what I'm actually going and my dual sport can vary depending on the size tire I choose to use, however none have ever been far enough off to get you in trouble because mine have always shown a bit faster than your actual speed. Just my experience.

My NT700's speedo is just like Billos, reads about 2 mph lower than my GPS. Not a big deal, just interesting.

My NT 700 runs very close to my Garmin on speed. Consistently, with all my previous bikes, the bike speedo showed faster speeds than a Garmin GPS. Prior to the NT700, I drove according to the GPS; now I drive according to my speedometer.
