9th Nat'l NT Rally - June 19-22, 2019 - Spearfish, SD

Nice seat.. but as for the water heater, you turned it off so no harm no foul.. wait 'til you're back from vacation to deal with it.

I agree with Mellow. Then stay in a motel on their nickel till they can get it fixed.

They don't want to wait. The heater sits up on a "heater platform" that whoever designed the house should be shot for the way they designed it. It is a "cube" in the corner of the garage that butts up against the garage wall drywall. They didn't put a "pan" on it that would direct the water away from the drywall. When the bottom of the tank leaked the water running out of it ran up against the wall too instead of just down the side of the stand and across the garage floor. The garage floor has cement "curbs' on it so none of the floor water came in contact with the walls there. But because the water on the heater stand soaked the wall there they insist on not waiting 3 weeks to check the wall for mold growing there...or letting it (in their words) "grow mold in a hot closed garage for the next 2 weeks". I can understand and agree with that. So they won't let me wait until I get back from Spearfish. See picture below. Wall behind heater got soaked where it meets the heater stand.

UPDATE WHILE TYPING THE ABOVE

They just called me back. The initial "insurance evaluation" appointment will now be between 8 AM - Noon Monday That is supposed to determine if the heater "really needs replacing" (yeah...even after I sent them the pictures). Then the "Drywall Inspector" (the 2nd required appointment) will be done in the afternoon, and a Property Management representative will be there then. I will give him a garage door opener and a house key, and he will come back and "supervise" the new heater replacement (the 3rd required appointment) for whenever after I leave for Spearfish on Tuesday morning. So I just decided I'm coming straight to Spearfish now and will get there a day earlier (Wednesday) than I originally planned. I just got off the phone with Bell's Motor Lodge and added Wednesday to my reservation now. Will be there Wed - Saturday nights now.

Geez...I need a vacation WITHOUT all this stress crap. 🤪

What do you need a hot water heater for? :ROFLMAO:

I really don't for now. Heck, I'm doing "combat showers" since I got home from California last night. Washcloth and cool water wipe. Actually quite refreshing. Gonna be doing them until next Tuesday when I leave for Spearfish. 🙂

Looks like it's all taken care of now and won't interfere with your vacation that much so ... no stress to worry about.. Heck, I've replaced my waterheater in about 30 mins including sweating the pipes which I'd never done and that's lasted about 10 years now so replacing it is an easy fast fix.

That's what's crazy, but "The Rules" need to be followed I guess. I worked in my father's plumbing and heating family business for 5 years before I joined the Air Force. Replaced numerous water heaters myself. I told the property management firm, "Hey, when you see rust colored water running out the bottom of the heater container, rust stains on top of and all along the sides of the heater stand where the water ran down it, and 3 streams of water running across your garage floor, it means the bottom of the internal tank has corroded through. It ain't rocket science. Look at the SEVEN pictures I sent to you of it all. Nobody should NEED to come out and 'evaluate' anything. Just bring a damn new heater, eh?" But NOOOOOO...…..somebody has to come out and OFFICIALLY say "Yes, it's leaking!" THEN somebody else can say, "OK, we'll bring a new heater later." :ROFLMAO:

Looks like Al Gore and the Global Warming gremlins are gonna bite y'all at Spearfish.... highs in the 60's..... quite a contrast to when I was there two years ago. A fair amount of rain in the forecast as well.... have fun and don't ferget yer long johns!

Mike

I'm not excited about the weather in this part of the world today. 60s and 80% chance of rain/thunderstorms. It's 523 miles from Billings to home and 571 on two lanes that might keep me a little bit drier until the last 200 miles. Oh, well. I'll probably wear my heated jacket.

Phil, Sorry you won't have ideal weather for your ride home. But you're not alone. That weather extends all the way to WI and remains that way for the next week. I experienced the same thing last weekend too when I rode to MI Upper Peninsula. The forecast was for rain ending and warm. It started out at 78 degrees and went down all day. By the time I got home it was 50 and raining harder.

That sounds like you will be a no-show AGAIN!!!! What's you excuse this time????

June is the wettest month in SD typically... next year I'll probably make it the last week in June. I'm avoiding the July 4th dates and around that due to avoiding as much holiday traffic and campground activity as possible.

A little water won't hurt anything heck, probably the only shower I'll get... o_O

Sadly, #1 son is moving to Cleveland, OH this weekend and I am helping with the move. The ice cream you owe me will just have to wait til next year.

Usually by this time of year, my grass has some brown spots because I'm too lazy and cheap to water but this year we've been receiving a lot more rain than usual and continuing later into the year. Yesterday, we had 2" over night then another 1" in the morning. My guess is that we're probably well over our 40" of rain average.

About two weeks ago we had a weird situation where 14 tornadoes came to ground relatively close to me. For a long time, we hardly ever experienced a tornado in OH and now they're a lot more common.

Just to let folks know, if anybody really cares. I will be in on Thursday. have a two night reservation at the Bell Motel. See you all there.

OK Mike, I WAS going to give you a hard time about missing another event, but I understand family comes first. But rest assured, I WILL find something to give you a hard time about. I sincerely hope the anticipation will keep you very nervous, but I know that is a long s shot too.

I had a great visit with my. #2 son today - another jar head.

I just finished mounting up new tires on my motorcycle. It took about 4 hours. One hour to update my computer so I could check English/metric torque conversions, one hour to clean everything that should have been cleaned before I started, one hour to find the collared spacer, straight spacer and one bolt that my puppy ran off with while I was working on the bike. I think I'll name the puppy Mike.

I can eat Mike's Ice Cream. I think if he can't make it to the rally, it is fair game. ;)

Maybe I am being optimistic, but the forecasted weather might be really nice. I won't mind a little rain for nice cool temperatures. I will have gear with me that will keep me happy in the 60s.

Bike is all packed up. First day will be easy day just visiting family, then another Easy 450 miles to Phil's house on Tuesday. Then to Spearfish on Wednesday.

See everybody there.

I am awaiting the assault with bated breath. A Jarhead in the family eh? Maybe there's hope for you after all.... or not... Sounds like the pup is a real PITA.... Mike would be an appropriate name then 😉

Have fun!
