While moving photos from the phone and computer to my external hard drive this morning, I started to peruse through the photos saved on that hard drive and came across the album from our first ever NT Forum get together here in OH / WV. We met in Logan, OH in August of 2012 and there were six of us. A few of us had just discussed riding some of the roads in SE Ohio and it happened. I remember I was only able to make it over on Friday evening cause it was kind of a last minute decision. Since I knew the roads from so many years riding here, I lead a huge ride on Saturday and a shorter ride on Sunday where folks started peeling off to head home. It sure has grown from there and I have so enjoyed being a part of this little event since then. We had more NT's the following year, moved it up to July and referred to it then as the NT Gathering. It appears we skipped having our little get together in 2014 to join in the TNT Rally in May at Pigeon Forge. We picked it up again in 2015 where we moved it to Davis, WV and held it there for 2 more years. In 2018 we moved the venue to North Bend State Park, and again last year. This would have been our 3rd year at North Bend if not for the COVID outbreak. It likely will not happen at North Bend though I sure hope we get to have it later this year. Am so looking forward to seeing all the friends I have made on this forum and enjoyed riding with. A few photos of the first get together.

Funny but none of us were from Ohio. I think the group was from Virginia, Penn, Kentucky, WV, Mich, and I can't remember the last one.

Thanks for the photos.

Just a quick tip as you mentioned you were “moving” your photos to an external drive. I have been doing computer support for almost 30 years now and one of the most devastating issues that I see is when someone’s external hard drive fails and they lose all their photos and other files and cannot afford the $2,000+ fee to have them professionally recovered At a data recovery centre.

If you choose to move your files onto an external backup drive PLEASE make sure you have your files saved on at least one other device as well.

A “backup” is NOT a backup if your files are only in one place.

I have them all on my computer, and on the external HD. I just don't want to depend on the HD in my computer. Been do it this way for many years. I also have my most memorable copied onto DVD's. I lost a bunch years ago when we first went digital and don't want to do that again. lol.

Good to know you have the photos in more than one place.

Not sure if you are aware that there is a thing known as “DVD rot” where the reflective surface of the DVD starts to fail and this then makes the DVD disc unreadable. Might be worthwhile checking some of your old DVD discs to see if they are showing any symptoms.

I never made it to any of the gathering. On TNT I had pancreatic a week before the event. It is a good idea to have a campground, civilized combine event. I don't camp (in a tent), and seems the dogs rescue in May getting ready for summer has kept me from joining. Must wonder how many years a small gathering can say alive. The NT is 8 years out of production, and less and less of the members here have one any more. I know the NT will be my last 2 wheel motorcycle: I guessing in a few years a trike of some sort will be my next machine. Just too bad the pandemic has postpone the riding, maybe a weekend event latter can happen for those interested in joining.
Well maybe see some of you in HELL latter in June, has a campground near, (motels are not really near). I recommend the prime rib, and taking some thing home from Hell Hole.

speaking of history...………….remember the year we had to go home 1 day early? because of pending snow on sunday morning, everybody left that morning instead of staying late(or Saturday night). just remembering that cause of this year's cold snap this past weekend with frost and some cold records being broken this past weekend. i'm sure Davis,WV had some snow or new cold records broken. just had a FB reminder from 4 years ago that we went to Taggart dam

Good memories ! And yes Davis had snow. Actually a pretty good one. They are all worried about the fruit trees now. I hope to keep my NT till I cannot hold it up any longer. Though, for the first time in my life I now own more than one motorcycle, not counting dirt bikes, so the mileage on the NT may not accumulate as much as it has. Maybe we should rename the site to NT-Owners/PostOwners.....:);). Life is Good !

I've got a great route, maps, points to see, etc for a trip to Hell and just have not made it. Maybe this is the summer to do that. The title for my trip will be "To Hell and a Hand Basket" as my trip will take me back via the Longaberger basket building in Ohio. Will shoot you a message once I determine the dates.

I can't remember what your other bike is. Refresh (for a few minutes at least) my feeble mind. :)

WVrider Hell has campgrounds near, but not motels close. Everyone should go to Hell, at least once (in this life anyway).

My primary is the 2010 faster silver NT like yours with just short of 73K. It will stay my primary. Now, as we know, we should NEVER say never. I likely won't or don't plan to is a better statement. But I messed up years ago and said I'd never own one of these. But the situation presented itself and a good friend of mine, who I started riding/travelling with back in 2011, got to the point they could no longer ride on 2 wheels. Thus asked if I was interested in buying that bike because they plan to find a used Spider (thus not having to put feet down to hold up or push backward). When they told me what I could have it for, I jumped on it. I've put over 500 miles on it in 2 weeks, as of today and its fun. Different but fun. Not giving up the NT though. I know, the suspence is killing you. Pics of bike are from yesterday. My friend and I rode up to the WV National Cemetary near Grafton to pay respects and see my dads site. Don't laugh at the bike too hard now.

Duane, is it the FXJLQ or the FDRZYXP? :) I can't decipher Harley models from just looking (or from reading the alphabet soup). If I were guessing, I'd guess it's a Sportster 1200. Looks like a nice bike. And it is a V-twin.

Phil, the title says XL1200C Anniversary Special. It is the 100th Anniversary Special 1200 Sportster.

A good looking scoot! However, you do realize that now that you have elected to come out of the closet you can expect to be teased mercilessly at future NT events.... I'm just sayin'......

Just coming across this thread, and the WV references strike home to me. Grew up in WV, and am well familiar with North Bend and Davis. North Bend is close to where my wife grew up, and the family has a cabin in Canaan Valley outside Davis. That whole Tucker County area is so pretty - have enjoyed those roads in several sports cars. Live in TN now, but would love to get back up there and take in one of these events.

That's a nice Sportster. (y) My first Harley was a 1200cc Sportster Roadster. I was still working back then and it made a good commuter once I added some luggage. A couple of suggestions; first add an oil cooler. Sportsters run warm and that tool bag on the forks will make it a bit worse. H-D sells a nice thermostatically controlled, frame mounted one for around $150. Second, if you're riding in cooler weather you can add a vinyl cover of the "crash" bar to block the wind. It was very effective in keeping the wind from blowing up my jeans. There are a ton of accessories available so you can really make it comfortable with a custom fit for to you if you spend a little time and money.:)

Always interesting how the treads wonder from the start of the subject. As for H-D's I would not own anything (newer) that was not water cooled. My brother in Des Plaines has had the worst service at the local dealer, last the did not reconnect his taillights after new shocks installed. He has a Pingel shifter installed when he got the trike (had to find a another place to get it adjusted). He also has neutral at bottom of pattern, hard to hit for reverse (one leg). I told him to get a Goldwing, he decided on H-D, spend as all who own one lots of money making it ride nice.
