After-Market Saddlebags

You have put a lot of thought and work into this project. I hope it works well for you for many miles.
I've said it before but too bad these plastic cases are the NT weak point. Mechanically the bike could be great, but the plastics limit useful life for many.

This is my favorite bike. I can put up with a little ugly to keep it working.

Thanks for this write up. I rarely use the existing saddlebags on my NT, I'm afraid they'll pop open, or fall off, or who knows what. I do carry bungies with me to hold them shut, in case something breaks.

I know I listed my NT for sale, and another one was recently listed. It's not likely mine will sell, so maybe I keep riding it, and make hauling groceries a little easier with a modification like this?

Thanks again for all the detail.

I am happy with the modifications I made. Full confidence in the mounting brackets and side cases.

Looks great! So....do you pick up bikes for modification? Or do I arrange shipping myself?

Thank you!

I work on my own bike. Ordered the brackets from Twisted Throttle and the side cases from eBay. I am happy to help others.

I fashioned a couple of sheet metal into covers for each end of the pannier pass-through. My first-aid kit now travels in there.

Wow, indeed that sounds like a major down side on this model bike bummer :(
Nice job or sorting out replacement bags and mounting process.

This NT is my favorite bike of all I've owned and the stock panniers are the dumbest thing I've seen in more years than I care to count.

When I got home from a 250 mile trip on Saturday, I noticed a crack in left side inner saddlebag near the rear fender and another good sized fracture near the luggage rack on on the right side. So I am removing the lids, have ordered Givi/Kappa 22 L hard cases and mounts. When they get here, I will see what modification to the mounts I need to make and how much of the inner saddlebag I need to save to keep the front end as "un-ugly" as possible.
Is it the bags on an NT1100 that cracked?

I did a project not so long ago with Tusk V2 in medium. I've owned a set of Givi 22 (same as the Kappa) for years. They are very similar in overall dimensional footprint to the Tusk medium V2.
