Any decent pannier seals out there?

Hiya everyone!

Unfortunately my left pannier is filling up with water, probably due to it leaning to the left side on the stand however I suspect both wouldn't hold up in a decent downpour as I am able to close the lids against some tissue paper and just pull it straight out with barely any resistance.

It's not the biggest issue but the constant pooling of water can't be good for the hinges or the plastics inside.

I've checked on Fowlers and it's £60 per seal which I think is ridiculous.

I was considering gluing in some alternative seals I bought for my windows that didn't fit, however I'm a touch worried it'll cause too much stress on the brittle pannier latches.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would share your concern about added stress on the lids. They'll explode if you just look at them funny.

You consider working around the problem? Waterproof dry bag inside to protect the panniers contents. Drill a drain hole where the water is pooling. If you wanted to get fancy you could probably install a thru-hull barb fitting (smooth low profile round end inside case, barb end external facing down at the road) with a little nubbins of nylon tubing running a bit below the case.

I'd probably do just dry bag and a little drain hole at water pooling area and go ride.

I'd rather a) check for any cracks and b) see to adjust hinges and strikers on the lid...

GF's NT always took on some water on the RH pannier, maybe a tablespoon... the lid got fixed after an (obvious) crash by the PO, leaving a crack in the seal support unattended...
Interestingly this changed to the LH when she installed the larger lids...
It however cured completely after I replaced both inside halves over the broken locking-rail mounting posts; since then both panniers not only open & close with ease, they're also fully waterproof...

One thing to check before you condemn the pannier seals is the integrity of the joint between the two inner pannier panels. I found a substantial leak where the two halves joint together. I sealed the joint with a ribbon of dum-dum sealant and my leak was fixed. Now I just need to re-engineer the two pannier lids as my original ones have crumbled to bits.

It is probably the strikers not locking properly. The latch on the inside could be loose or broken. DAMHIK
