Confused in Spokane

Do you have a nightlight you can plug into the rear of the center console? Not sure if the hybrid is the same but on the ranger it disables start/stop if it thinks something is charging... that's the easiest way to shut it off but not every vehicle works that way and with a hybrid it may ignore it.

Not sure if this works on a hybrid.

My understanding is that a hybrid like the Prius starts and stops it's engine for many reasons and uses a generator turned motor for starting. Since they seem to work, maybe they don't have a ring gear and Bendix?

You'll have to check some ford f150 forums but you can get a trial version of the software if you just want to do one thing like this. Some will use it for many other changes like turning on the left/right fog light if you're left/right blinker is on... something like that.. puddle lights and many other settings.

I only used it to turn off the start/stop.

There's also hardwired options if you don't want to mess with the software:

You'll have to do the research to make sure it works for your truck.
Some of these Amazon devices are easy to install and some are not, I see.

All of the outlets power down after a time. I keep my Maverick plugged into a Battery Tender Jr when I'm home. So far, none of the dead battery problems that so many have had.

Now I am curious to get on the Subaru forum. I wanna voltmeter. Unless you are in continuous stop and go traffic, I don't see how a good battery can go flat. And if it runs down, the car computer should be smart enough to keep the engine running. Are automotive engineers morons? Oh wait, they blow the car horn when you lock the doors. I answered my own question.

No one has mentioned that this stupid feature “teaches” drivers to “roll” stop signs. This is a safety concern for sure. AND as a motorcyclist I’m very concerned when the wheels on a car on a crossroad I’m approaching are turning. Sure, most drivers like a rolling start to get through the intersection 0.3 seconds sooner. But I’m not willing to bet my life that they won’t pull out in front of me.

My 2024 Subaru has this engine stop-start feature. It doesn’t activate on most of my trips because I can drive to my destination without stopping in my very rural area. I’m still learning to press the “disable” switch after starting the car. My first cars (back in the 50s) required fiddling with the gas and choke to keep the engine running. How times have changed.

Good info!!! My Opal rally cadet had a choke. Worked well. Can't remember my Triump Spitfire if it had a choke. Had to break into my Opal one very cold day as the door lock was frozen...in a. Parking lot. Had a huge racing stripe. Used a coat hanger. When I went to start the car, there was no choke! Wrong car.

With Subaru auto start stop, if you brake very gently when coming to a stop it will not activate.

Takes some practice but it works quite well when you master it.

By the way if it does activate, just apply heavier pressure on the brake pedal and the engine will start right up.

See your owners manual for other ways to manipulate the auto start stop.

Reading these posts has been my introduction to this ridiculous feature.
I am way too old school for the changes coming my way. I may want to start driving antiques or something.

Thanks! Will soon have time to get on forum. Do you know if a Subaru still uses a bendix and geared flywheel?

There are many cables on amazon/ebay to shut off this ridiculas feature. Some are very easy to install....in line. and cheep. Most people I talk with are too ignorant to know/remember what a bendix/ring gear is or how often they would fail. Who remembers beating on the starter with a broom handle at 100,000 miles? or hearing the starter whine out of control cause the gear teath on the flywheel are gone?
