Hello, new to the NT club

2010 NT700V
Yesterday, I traded my 07 Sportster in for a 2010 NT700V, has 27k miles and I just couldn’t pass it up. I’ve had my eye on the NT’s for a while and when this one turned up I jumped on it.

I’ve had my sportster for about 7 years and absolutely loved it. I took it to Arkansas about 6 times. I just got to the point where I was ready for something new, the sport touring bikes have always interested me, especially the NT.

I plan on heading to Colorado next month on a week long trip, and decided that was the perfect time to jump into the NT boat.

I’ve put about 150 miles on the NT so far and loving every minute of it! Love how simple yet fun they are.

Oh and I’m from western Missouri, KC area, mid thirties and have 3 kids who can’t understand why I traded my loud bike for a quiet one haha. Looking forward to putting some miles on my new ride. And the info in these forums are great, thank you to the people who maintain it and add content regularly!

Welcome from the eastern Show-Me state! You will love the NT and after your Colorado trip, you will love it even more and very much appreciate the "quiet"

Welcome, you will find out that this isn't much of a "club" but it is a friendly bunch of folks with a lot of knowledge and a willingness to help.

Kyle, when I read this I had to look where you are from, I road with a couple on there sportster this past week and they were really liking my "Red" NT. When we told them about two for sale here in Michigan I though, did they go buy one, could it be...
Colorado next month sounds fun! A great way to bond with your bike!
 
Thank you all for the warm welcome. Took it out for a few more minutes today and had a blast. One thing I’ve noticed so far is when I rode the Sportster for longer than an hour my lower and upper back would hurt like heck. With the NT though it feels like I didn’t even ride, and I had an upgraded seat on the Sporty too! Also really like the adjustable windshield, I was able to tweak it to just the right height.

RedNigel will you be going through the south east part of Missouri? It’s so beautiful down there and all kinds of twisties too. Enjoy your ride!

I have a really dumb question, I notice what may be speakers and air vents on the faring? Are these usable or just there to take up space? And also what tire pressure is everyone running? TIA
 
There was never a sound system offered here in the US. You could build something. I use my cell phone and Bluetooth headset for music and GPS.
 
Honda recommends 36F, 42R for tire pressures. A lot of people run 38F, 44R. I'm doing that now. With a tire pressure monitoring system, I notice that when the tires get warm, pressures seem to get up around 40-42F, 48-50R.

You have just discovered why long distance riders prefer the upright seating position of a sport touring bike. The feet forward position of your Sporty doesn't allow your feet or legs to absorb any bumps and any road harshness is transmitted directly to your spine. With your feet below you, they can help with road harshness. Plus, with your feet below you, you can stand on the pegs and stretch from time to time. The feet forward cruiser position may look "cool", but it is very uncomfortable for longer rides. Look at some old time pics of the Civil War.... have you ever seen pics of Gen'ls Lee and Grant with their feet under their horses chins?

NT Club? I was never shown the secret hand shake. I never made Spearfish, and the TNT I started I came down with pancreatitis: so maybe I just have miss the opportunity to get the hand shake. The dogs keep me from getting down to WV during those rides, so maybe that is another opportunity I missed. I still have a couple new NT coffee cops around too still in boxes.

Yup, the secret handshake still remains a secret to me too...… and, I'm still waiting for my secret decoder ring I wuz promsed!!! Every day, check the mailbox and every day, utter disappointment...…. <sigh>

I am in the same boat as you. I just added an NT to my garage, right next to my 1200Custom. I just rode the NT about 2500 miles round trip from the Chicago area to Surfside Beach, SC.
It was great compared to the Sporty. I loved the ability to adjust the windshield. The Sport has a windshield as well, but it's not adjustable.
I still ride the Sporty quite a bit around town- anything longer than that and I take the NT
