I am watching the smoke from the Manitoba fires pour over Northern Wisconsin headed for Chicago. How bad is it, Jim?

I saw a map of all the fires in Canada on the Weather Channel website. Are those a continuation of the fires of last summer or are they newly kindled since then. If these fires keep up, there won't be anything left of our51st state!

So far, they have lost an area the size of Delaware. If you go to Windy dot com and select fires, there are many. Poor little Canada doesn't have the resources to fight them. Do to internal Canadian politics, I can't say who sets them but more than one Canadian on a Cruise ship has told me the same thing. If you are interested, pm me and I will let you know.

According to the NWS, we may start to experience some haze today from the Canadian fires.

It boggles the mind. How many millions of tons of trees do you have to burn to fill 1/4 of the US with some level of particulate pm 2.5?
Windy dot com projection for noon today. I have COPD so I carry masks.

The last few days there has been significant smoke with air quality warnings. Together with that there is a LOT of pollen in the air. Lots of people coughing. The sky has a dark yellow color which clears and returns periodically. It is worse than many of the wildfires that I’ve worked on in my “employed” days. I’d post a picture but it wouldn’t show much.

I'm in far northeast Iowa. The sky has a light tinge for a couple of days. Not reaching the ground level. Going to rain all day today, so that will wash most of it out for a few days.
Last year, we could smell it a few times. Warnings are out for very sensitive people.

My sister in law is in Ames but she doesnt communicate much. Most of the dangerous smoke is to your east.
