Once the item or information regarding was released made public, the NDA was no longer in effect as its considered public information.

The difference is that you were involved in a case study, and you signed a NDA. I did the same when I did testing for Microsoft.

But for just anyone on an Internet forum to be speculating about something...there's no control over that. And it actually helps Honda to have people thinking about their products.

After a couple of days returning from one posted a very vague thread regarding my experience carefully not to disclose any specifics of the item that I got to review. I also posted a picture of my bike in front of some shipping containers with Honda pennant flags draped on them at their remote test facility in the desert. I used extreme caution not to show anything else that could be used to identify the location of this facility.

Within a few hours, I received a phone call from the North American Honda Headquarters Legal Department regarding my post. They explained to me that I was in violation of the NDA that I signed and agreed to, which I did not receive a copy of for later review. A few hours later, I received a call from the General Counsel there at Honda. It sounded like the call was with a room full of people. He read me the riot act and said that they were considering pursuing for damages if I did not cooperate to remedy this issue. I said that I would do what to could do and fully cooperate to the best of my abilities. I was instructed to have the thread removed from the forum where it was posted and to contact the administrator of the forum to get that done immediately. Then not to post anything on the forum for 90 days. A few days later I received a letter on Honda's Letterhead signed by the General Counsel himself reiterating what was discussed over the phone.

I can tell you that I could have lost everything that I owned over that "Vague" post. The one in question here is a bit more specific.

Honda does take these things very seriously. However, they do not provide copies of these important documents to the people who are signing them, which is bad on their part. I have a few friends that work at Honda in Torrance, CA and they also had to sign an NDA and sworn to a higher level of secrecy as part of their employment with North American Honda.

I am surprised that they would have not stipulated "NO CAMERAS!" Or even cell phones is this is after the cell fone age. I also would be surprised if they did not lecture the paricipants that they were to say nothing about their experiences to anyone. Industrial espionage is big business. Getting spy camera photos of say a 2019 Subaru Forester before the release date would be a plum. But I doubt you would find one that came from a spy within Subaru....THEY would be in big trouble.

I know when the companies tech guys visited many OEM's they had their cell phone cameras taped or left at desk. They had to sign agreement too. Magna did mirrors for most of the OEMs, if you have a car the mirror was built in Michigan (Holland or Zeeland) most likely, either at Magna(Donnelly), or Gentec (biggest in world).
 
Perhaps this is a big hoax after putting a lot of thought regarding the subject. I do recall a guy from the UK on the NC700 Forum years ago claiming to have information that Honda was working on and planning on releasing an NC800X. It turned out to be a hoax and some sort of Social Engineering to get people talking around the water cooler.

It would be safe to say that in this case here we can put this to bed and move on.

• The take away from this all is to be skeptical of these types of claims and their sources.
• Also to be aware if you do have any "Privileged or Sensitive Information" not to disclose it in a public forum.

LOL.. it's a forum, if we don't have rumors, we don't have much else... so.. keep the speculations going.. a new NT would be nice.
 
I heard Yamaha is coming out with a small sport tourer. It is based on an RZ500 with a 2 stroke engine, saddle bags, and shaft drive.
Sounds like fun.

"Sell well enough" pretty much tells the story. It's unfortunate for us that most riders prefer something with a larger engine although it's barely above idle most of the time.

Yes. I rarely find the need to go above 5000 rpm unless the "little devil" looking over my shoulder says 'go on, turn up the wick".
I have three bikes now, the 700, a 500 and a 250.
They are all different styles and all have their attractions.
I have ridden much larger and more powerful bikes and it is a hoot, but I think that I would get myself into too much trouble with 100+ HP.
It is rare for me to say to myself "gee, I wish I had more power".

I wonder if the 2019 group of 500cc motorcycles has Honda thinking that there is a need for midsize bikes. Three different 500, aimed at almost every group of rider.
 
My guess on the multiple Honda 500s and also 300s is they are trying to reinvent the motorcycle market at a base (affordable) level.

You can't expect to draw many young newbies into the fold if you only promote the CBR1000RR and GL1800! The other factor is the much bigger market worldwide for the 500s and 300s.

As in the past: You meet the nicest people on a Honda. I think you have to get new riders by getting then started on something that does not scare the S(&^ out of them. With Traction control and ABS you might get a few new riders with a 300 to 500cc motorcycle.

Insurance cost and licence level requirements, not to mention emission rules in Europe and Asia is what drives the market. The US gets the left overs. The US motorcycle demand is just not that great lately.
