It has snowed 3 times already this year, but yesterday was the first time I had to shovel it. My riding season is only about 5 months long and less than that for 90% of riders here. I do, however, ride my “fat bike” through the winter.

I don't think moving south is the solution. A friend of mine was planning his retirement and considering moving to where the climate was warmer. He started his somewhat somewhat unscientific research by taking a map of the USA and tearing it in half and throwing the north half away. Then he watched the evening news each night and put a red pin in the map everywhere there was something bad happening like storms, hurricanes, fires, floods, riots, traffic jams, crime, etc. His plan was to move to somewhere there was no pins in the map. There was nowhere to go. I think he ended up moving back to where he was raised in Michigans UP between L'Anse and Marquette.

There are undesirable living factors everywhere. And isn't it wonderful that we can choose which ones we want to live with or without. My main consideration is my wife and she is pretty deeply rooted right here. If I moved, I'd be by myself.

Five months, 2 Weeks, does not matter. All that matters is you get to ride. Obligations can keep you from riding. Weather does of course. Significant other can keep you from riding. Only factor that matters is your enjoyment when you ride.
 
They used the S-word in a recent weather forecast but nothing happened. I live about an hour north of Cincy and the KY border so I'm pretty far south.
 
Can't say anything about trailering just have not done it, maybe not old enough yet? Ha ha!
My riding season is about 32 weeks long, it be longer if they didn't salt the hell out of the roads over some early snow flakes then in the Spring it takes a couple good rains to wash it all away.
I plan on attending the event this time so its on my calendar, will only be able to take Friday off work so I should be there sometime in the afternoon on that Friday return home that Sunday. Be great to get to meet all that attends the event looking forward to it.
 
Those of you that live as far north/ south from about Dayton, Oh. or Indy sometimes do not realize how much snow and cold we who live further north have to contend with. Where I live, we are not "safe" from snow until mid April. The pic was taken on March 6th, 2016 when I left home to ride to Fla. Temp was 22°F and never went above the freezing point untill somewhere in Tn. Where Jungle Jim lives, it is much, much worse.

Snow is OK, it is just not OK for me.
I have seen enough in my younger days in northern Illinois. The quantity there was not huge but the flat country sure made it drift up.

I don't like days is the 90's, Michigan has more then enough. Not a fan of snow, but what the heck where can you find a place that has 65 degrees year around? It is nice sonny 50's today, but I busy doing chores. Perfect weather for a ride.
 
Miairhead, next time we get this nice of a day we should meet for lunch. With you being over near the west side and me on the east, we should both have to ride close to 200 miles. Sounds like a good day to me.
I'm also going to put this gathering on my calendar for next year!

Don't know about "ONLY Swoopy", however I will definitely not have the All Day twisties like last year :). Remember, we will be in WV and SE Ohio so there will be some of those famous twisties to complete a route. So practice your counter-steering..... Fun Fun !

I'm going to be optimistic and mark my calendar. The event is certainly a lot less miles for me than Spearfish. I am scheduled for back surgery in the next month to six weeks. The PT did not help much with a compression fracture so we have to do the surgery. Don't know whether riding the motorcycle is in the future. They will be fusing L-3&4. If I can't ride the bike, I'll drive the Shelby.
 
Bear - let's hope the surgery goes well for you and whether on 2-wheels or 4-wheels, you're welcome to attend! :)
 
Can I come if I don't ride an NT700 any more? Yesterday I went out and bought a new Burgman 400 scooter. The problem I am having with my legs was making it almost impossible to throw my leg over the saddle. They tell me that any thing I could do on the NT I will be able to do on the Burgman. It's funny but there are at least two other guys on the Burgman 400 forum that rode NT700s before they went to scooters.
 
Yes, Burgmans are fine. :)

I'm part of a weekday riding group that is mostly made up of Burgman 400 riders so it'll make me feel at home! And most of them have stepped down from the Burgman 650s that they considered too heavy.

The main thing is that you keep riding!

On Roadrunner weekend events every year I meet a couple that ride a Honda scooter, better then 70% of the riders at this gathering. They ride like a trained team. When he was in Europe he rented a NT for the tour ride (they did not rent scooter). He likes the Honda better, we talked quite a while about his and wife's skill on the curves.
I think a scooter gets a bad rap, they are more then capable to tour, and so much easier running errands (with good storage).

Sounds good to me! I really enjoyed the 2018 gathering. Wayne was an excellent tour guide. This year I will try to keep my shiftier from falling off. Thank god for zip ties and duct tape that kept me on the ride. Also this year I will have more storage space as I purchased the Honda tail trunk. I will ask my friend Ray (the gold wing rider) to join us again.
