URGENT Potential new owner to a NT....question on the availability of the fairing

Please post the pictures of the Fugly! It's always interesting to see a project before it starts getting sorted. We know what's underneath surface and your $1000 purchase price looks fantastic to me.

In the UK, as far as insurance companies are concerned, minor damage to the plastic will write off a bike. Either live with a tatty motorcycle or take it to a specialist repairer who will not resort to factory parts.

I find it liberating to have a down-at-heel machine. No longer is it a disaster if it falls off the stand.

That is exactly what I am thinking.......but I can't leave the fugly sports team paint job on the bike. It has to go, I will just have to learn to Plasti Dip it myself.

Yep, I could not really care if my bike is 3 different colors if you look closely. DIVA has a Salvage Title and I could care less...

Different colors but still all factory finish, looks good in my book. Fugly is all home painted and matte looking, can't really compare 😅

It's nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Take the Lakers decal off and think of something else that can use those colors. At least if you come to the WV rally, you'll be able to pick your bike out from among the 10-15 others.

@Moto-Kafe @Phil Tarman You guys are too kind 😂

It's pretty bad......especially since no one in my family is a Laker fan. The good news is, It should be pretty easy getting it painted since most of the plastic pieces are not securely attached. I am thinking two-tone Black/Gray.

Is there a source for new fasteners, nuts and bolts for the fairing?

I also need to cut down the seat. Fugly is too heavy and tall for me. Almost dropped it getting it on the lift table

Importing to the UK from the USA is horrendously expensive. I do not know the cost in the other direction.

When I bought my 2010 model in 2019 for £2,200, it was in poor shape. I had to rebuild many of the fairing mounting points. The metal is 0.9mm brass. Note that the bolt hole is yet to be drilled. The parts will be assembled and an under size hole drilled into the pylon. The steel bolt forms its own thread and works well.

It is certainly <ahem!> different! But for $1000, you have lots of $ to play with to restore it back to beauty. Many of the yellow pieces once were black or silver. You can repaint those easily. That leaves the tank and pannier covers which can be wrapped. A good winter project! By spring it will be back to being beautiful!

I have never much cared what color my vehicles are. I would put my time and money into fixing anything else that needs immediate attention. By the time you get done with that you will probably have gotten used to the current color scheme.

Agreed, get all the stuff done in one go once you have the plastics off .. taking them off and then back again is PITA for even small stuff...

I am doing my basic maintenance this winter ... parts just arrived in mail yesterday

For you, I would add a check on the rear shock… check ST1100Y post in my thread. I am not doing it as I just replaced the shock, and don’t have appetite to take the whole thing out again .. may be in 2 years 😊

While you at that, take a drill / burring tool and expand the hole in the right foot rest, helps to get to the muffler bolt easier …

Risers are another PITA to add, specially if you want to go over 1 inch height. I want 1 inch up and 1 inch back, and that means I have to elongate the clutch (use the translap cable - I got 1) OR add the easy clutch by mooseracing. You will also need to increase length of brake cable. I got a steel extender form China, will try to install it this winter.

I ordered this from aliexpress (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001000394138.html) for $5 and 1 month shipping time ..

PS: I am noob as compared to Mike, Phil, Brillot2000 and many other experienced members on this forum who have provided immense guidance and given me the confidence to try stuff on my own. So godspeed to me .... and you .... for our winter projects ...

Wow, thank you all for the very helpful and needed suggestions and info.

Currently I think I have 12 bikes(including Fugly), two are in complete tear down full rebuild phase. The majority of the bikes were abandoned or not running when I purchased them(read it as cheap). The only running bikes I purchased were the two BMWs and Fugly. I can work with mechanical and electrical issues but painting is a first for me. I do not have deep pockets so taking Fugly to a professional painter is very unlikely.

My tentative plans are as follows:

1. Strip Fugly naked and study how the pieces are put together. Gather the list of fasteners, hardware and pieces needed.
2. Fire up my trusty steamer. Clean and decrease her from top to bottom. I use Simple Green Aircraft Cleaner over the steamer
3. Cut and reshape the seat and install new seat cover
4. Drain, flush, and replace all fluids and oils. Check, adjust and perform all the maintenance for 15k.
5. Repaint all the yellow pieces
6. Repaint all the purple pieces
7. Pray for help and divine intervention on putting all the pieces back on the bike

Please chime in on anything I missed......a huge Thank You All in advance.

Very nice work! I have a feeling I may have to steal some of your work here.

I found this site in the UK for fairing fasteners - https://www.speedyfasteners.com/Honda_Deauville_NT650_Fairing_Kit_p/sf571.htm

It says Deauville 650 but the picture of the bike looks the same as our NT700VA. It is very pricey with shipping to the US though
