Just thought I would make the first post in the Australia/NZ section to try and find out where all the members from Australia are located geographically.

Just post your state and suburb or general area.

I am in Wilberforce NSW

I'm in Canberra.

I bought an NT650V Deauville new in August 2004 and two years later, in August 2006, I sold it and bought my new NT700V Deauville.

i'm in Tamworth NSW.
Bought my "RED" Nt 700 Deauville about two years ago. Ride regularly with a group of seniors. Just recently one of our riders bought a Black NT 700 Deauville.
So now we have two Deauvilles in a City of 30,000 +!! and I have been telling everyone that the Deauville is as rare as Hens Teeth in Australia!

I'm in Riverview (Ipswich) QLD
Although I should not count my self as an NT owner just yet as I have not picked it up from the dealer yet.. Arr the wait is killing me.. I just have to make it to Monday then shes all mine

Wow, didn't know we had so many from the other hemisphere. Glad to have more of an international flavor here, especially since the UK forum takes care of the European group.

Now you can count me in :)
So there I am, hand-shake for the business manager, hand-shake for the salesman.. but now my hands keep shaking as it dawns on me I have just committed about $10000 and 4 years to this machine. I pull away and I'm freaking. My wife is leading in the car and watching me trying to get used to the excellent breaks. Slowing down no problem. Stopping on the other hand, O dear god, pinch, jerking, tying to make sure I don't drop it.. It look like I have never ridden before. And it felt that way. My pretty red NT is now safely in the house and I free too embarrassed to even look at it.

I guess I'm going to have learn it all over again. I have never had a current (modern) cycle. The bikes I rode were old, under powered and sluggish no fuel injection and drum breaks, the XJ had front disks. The XJ550 I think I only ever got it up to about 140Kmph. The XL250 with changed sprocket, going down hill with a tail wind just touched 100Kmph.

I used to love to ride. The NT is awesome and it has me freaking out.
Any of those little pointers for keeping her under control would greatly appreciated :mw1:

Do you guys have anything like our Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Rider Courses? One of those, or any riding coaching, would be well worth doing.

Go onto a parking lot that's empty and use the parking stripes as turn markers. Practice serious braking.

Enjoy the bike!

Mark go for a ride out to Yamanto and then take the back way through to Beaudesert. You will love the ride and you and the NT will become as one. You only have a short run on the highway to Yamanto so take care on that bit and on the way back home it will not be a problem.

When I first learnt to ride I had to go through two training for my motorcycle licence and that was restricted cc for, I think, 2yrs. I can't imagine that it been made any easier these days. I fee safe in saying there are plenty or rider courses. I think I need the room to practice and get my mojo back.
I have taken the day off work to pick it up. Unfortunately it is an incredibly hot today. Not a day to be in the sun any more than necessary, that probably did not help my stress levels, heavy black jacket in the heat. I had planed to just ride around the neighbourhood ( it is fairly quiet weekdays), just not now way to hot.
Yes I will have to come to grips with the breaks (no pun intended) they are very good and I really must get the feel for them before.. lets just say sooner the better.

I can sense your concern, thank-you

I feel I have to write here, as I am a NT-700 owner from Perth, WA
Hope to find another forum member somewhere here..

Phoenix, Arizona currently.. :)

Back in Melbourne I had a Kwaka Z250A.. That was my 'starving student' bike..

How are you finding the bike?
I use a Dririder airmesh jacket in summer. Cooler than a T-shirt. Just remember to pack some drinks in the Handy Integrated Panniers!

Looks like we're all out here. Enjoying our trusty NT's.
See you most Sunday mornings at the pie shop/cafe at Canungra, Qld.

Now I am loving it.
I am still getting used to the tall 1st gear. This is first bike I have had where you really do use 1st.
I picked up a used Dririder jacket with some mesh. It's not with me at the moment so not sure exactly which it is. Unfortunately it didn't come with the inner liner. but it does have the integrated hydration pocket in the back.
She gets a run to work every day I don't expect rain day. Showers I don't mind, but not having any wet weather gear at the moment I give the rain a miss.
I have ordered a throttle lock so I can take it for a longer ride. My wrist get a real ache after 2.5~3 hrs. Still waiting for it to arrive.
I so want to get away for a weekend. Maybe even attempt a SS1000 one day.

Is it just me or do others find all pockets, panniers etc get quite hot?
I had my phone in the right fairing pocket and when I took it out I realized how hot it was and it is probably not good place for it.

I find my wine casks get warm on the way home from the bottlo if I take too long......

Ahh That old chestnut. The dilemma drink here or take it home. The coles cooler bags are good size for a big cask or few bottles and ice packs.

I have to ask this question.......

What attracted you all to the Deauville?
I remember them when they first come out back in NZ. So they were always in my mental catalogue of bikes.
A bloke in my home town had a PC800. Now that was an interesting invention! It looked just like a baby Goldwing 1500.

I read all the various opinions of the Deauville on different sites and I feel compelled to offer my unsolicited opinion on the subject.
My parents are English. We never had a family car when we were kids. Dad had a Suzuki A50 to get to work on. Many times I rode on the back of it with him.
Deauvilles fit that mould of everyday get-you-to-work-on-time utility transport. I use mine for the same purpose. I carry all my wet weather gear, a puncture repair kit, a first aid kit and a bike cover to keep the sun off the bike at work. I still have heaps of storage left over plus I have a top box for trips. (my wife likes to bring her handbag)
I put 2 power outlets in the RH fairing pockets. 1 is on all the time, the other comes on with the ignition. Both circuits are in the unused plug under the LH fairing. I have a bluetooth earbud set and I use a Nokia Navigator phone so I can listen to MP3's or use the navigator function and have the man talk to me!!!! I don't use the 'always on' outlet. That is there for a flat phone battery or an air compressor when I am at the side of the road.
The motor can sound a bit boring at times. But I say to anyone who knocks the bike - ride it for a whole day or more on a trip and you will get it.
Yes, there are plenty more exciting bikes out there. I myself have owned a Katana and a 1200 Bandit.
But, I can only afford one bike so it has to do everything I ask of it.
I may not lust after my bike but I deeply respect it for what it can do.

Sorry for the long post.

I started with a Honda trail bike in about 1978 and progressed to a CX500 Shadow in 1981 as my riding had changed to all road riding. I simply loved the CX500 for its easy riding position, V twin, fuel economy and shaft drive. Many people did not like the CX500's but they simply did not see the real appeal of them.

Not surprisingly the NT700V Deauville is very similar to the CX500 in many ways and to me it is probably the evolution of the CX500. So when I went to purchase a recent bike the NT700V was a natural choice.

I now own a CX500 Turbo (purchased about 5 years ago) and the NT700V and enjoy riding them both but the NT700V is my "normal ride" as the CX500 Turbo is mainly ridden to historic motorcycle show events.
