Who needs a new bike?

Don’t give up Mike. That’s what I thought too. I’ve wanted an RT for many years. I kind of gave up. But when I rode this bike I was hooked. It is a game changer for me.

But I’m struggling with the complexity and technology. However I was told that would happen, so my struggles are common to new BMW owners. I’m taking the bike in for the 500 mile check up in about 10 days so I’ll get some more instruction then. So far I can start the motor, change ride modes, raise/lower the windscreen, and set the cruise. Changing from “manual” to “automatic” is easy (there’s one button for that).

But in the meantime I occasionally get the split screen, the radio, a blank navigation screen, and a whole bunch of “you can’t do that - stupid” messages. Maybe I’ll spend some more time searching on “YouTube University” for instructions.
If it's like the 1250. When on the main screen, move the wonder wheel left, that will switch the split screen to one, move right and it splits and changes what's in that right half every time you push right. Go left and reverse options til the one screen.

Right. Thanks Joe. I think the screens are very similar, but the motorcycles are different. Maybe we can meet at Spearfish next summer if I can find my way there without nagavatiom (I spelled it the way I meant it).

I was visiting with a computer guy this afternoon and I learned more in a half hour with him than I got from a half a day reading the manual. Lots of acronyms to learn.

I’m loving the riding though. I’ve been in Road Mode until today I tried Dynamic and Dynamic Pro Modes. Holy wow, that bike pulls hard. They said not to exceed 5K rpms in the break in period. So my curious mind wondered what speed that would be. The answer is 100 mph in 6th gear. Of course I didn’t actually try it, I just figured it out mathematically.

Like my cell phone. somehow got it in talkback mode, which is a living hell. You push a button and the phone says what you did...now you have to double tap the same button to get the function to work. The phone says long press with 2 fingers to exit. Bravo Sierra. You have to go into settings, listening and double tapping and turn off swipe to activate and turn off talkback.
I am buying a Triump Tiger 900 GT pro. Used. Pray for me.

Just a word now that you brought up the elephant in the room. nagavatiom. Idaho has now suspended paper maps and I was told all those wonderful maps by AAA are now gone so I am hording my supply. If you want to sell your AAA NORTHWesterrn States and Provinces, let me know. I will check ebay.
I use paper maps with my notes in a tank bag clear window.

As an aside, Honda has almost released their CB400 Super 4 with E clutch. Drool. You can use the clutch or not. Your choice. You can not kill this engine. 29 in seat. Less than 400 lbs.
I am sure it wont make it to the US. (Japanese Lady not included)

Honda CB400 Super Four 2026, with eClutch!

The development of Honda 's future four-cylinder motorcycle is somehow linked to the enormous Chinese market . The folks at young-machine.com insist that the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer is developing a mid - displacement four-cylinder for China , possibly with a 500cc engine .

Minoru Kato , head of Honda 's motorcycle division , stated in the fall of 2024 , while visiting a Chinese auto show, that the rumors were true . One of the major differences compared to the Japanese version is that the motorcycle to be sold in China will have a full fairing . The brand has also registered the names CBR400R Four and CBR500R Four . The initials CBR usually denote a sport model with a fairing .
Our Japanese colleagues believe the CBR500R Four will be sold in China , while the CB400 Four would be aimed at Japanese and European enthusiasts . This small (or medium-sized) retro bike would be part of the family with the upcoming Honda CB1000F , the retro model we've already covered extensively.

This to me is an interesting developement. Honda feels that the e clutch, since it basically works seemlessly with the hand or the computer, is a game changer for new riders, while giving us old farts what we want. No need to be afraid of stalling the engine. Or messing up shifts.

Great. Have fun with your new ride. I would have made you a great deal on my old Tiger 800, but I would have advised you not to buy it. I hope you like the feel of the 19” front tire.

I couldn’t be much happier with my Bavarian Tractor. I’m sure I’ll catch on to the display screen programming - eventually. The comfort performance and handling couldn’t be much better. One nit I do have is that there is no front storage of any kind. I want at least a small place to put a side stand pad, glasses, etc. Fortunately I have lots of pockets in my riding suit.

BTW, how many miles did your Triump have?
Did you check the Valves?
The Tiger 900 GT pro has some nice features and handles very well. Easy, good engagement clutch, no vibs at cruise speeds, top loading and side loading luggage, driving lights that arent too bright, unlike Frosty's Bavarian tractor. The display will take some getting used to.
Like the color of your bike.

At Spearfish, I only MENTIONED that a new Moto Guzzi V85TT Travel would sure be nice. Shaft drive, cruise control, heated grips, comfy seat, simple air cooled.
Shoulda been a Honda.

Then, whaddaya know! JJ and Chris BOTH get the bug and go out and get new wheels! Beemers and Triumph’s, oh my.

It must be contagious, but I hope my vaccinations hold. My NX500 is the “Goldilocks” just right motorcycle. For now. If only it could keep up with an FJR going uphill against a headwind. On the Interstate. LOL

You should have kept the Vstrom Adventure. New 2025 ones are $10,000, BTW The 500 is a good bike, but it wouild take all my will power to not buy a CB400. Alot of Japanese bikes of that size that arrive here look like racers or transformers. I have fond memories of UJMs. Four cylinders, center stand, tubeless tires.
