Hubris or acceptable risk?

I was stationed at Korat AFB in 1968 and ‘69. I recall that Thai people are some of the friendliest I have met anywhere. Always smiling! Definitely a third world country at the time, but nobody seemed to be suffering in poverty. I regret that I’ve never been back.
