Where did you ride today?

Nice early Sunday evening ride on the back roads in Ste Gen County, south of St Louis. I haven't been on the NT since arriving back home from an all interstate road trip over a week ago (too much heat, not enough stops), was riding the other bikes (NC700X, CB500X), but the NT beats them both for handling, at least for me. I am very comfortable in the turns on the NT with the Pirelli Angels. I need to sell a bike, but it won't be the NT.

Ride to Echo Lake at the base of Mt Blue Sky (Mt Evans)

Knocked out another 126 miles to add to the monthly Moto Mile total. Rode up to Echo Lake via Evergreen. Took a back way up thru Witter Gulch to 103 then up to Echo Lake. Had to show the NT1100 how to get there, as this was it first trip to the Lake for it. Here are a couple of pictures and the route.

Note: Sorry for the quality of the photos, as I had forgot my normal camera and had to take these with my cell phone.

My son and daughter-in-law went with me on a ride across West Virginia and Virginia from Ohio. Rode the Blue Ridge Parkway for a couple hundred miles and back. About 1,100 miles over a 3 day ride. Great time, great roads!!! I rode the NT700, they were on my old 1998 Ural Tourist.

If I wanted a classic, this would be it.

Where did I ride today? Wanted to do some cleaning on the FJR, so I rode it up onto my bike table lift and then over onto the floor. Very short expensive ride. Flayed the skin on my left elbow. The blood color matches the bike color.

I have been riding my bikes up on this lift for over 20 years now. and no issues. This time my outrigger box somehow slid out from my foot just as I got the bike up on the lift. No where in that instant to find another foot hold. You can see on the picture how far the box is from the lift. Sue's (Wife) home nurse that comes by three times a week for Sue's med issues, cleaned and dressed the wounded elbow. So no ER visits yet. Now the issue will be finding the parts for a twelve year old bike. Might have to go new and that will not be inexpensive. Fortunately it looks as if only the left faring panel is damaged. No damage to the left pannier. (pannier guards did their job), and the black vent panel. Mirror was not harmed, it just folded back as designed. It seems the mirror stay / faring stay was also unharmed. Canyon Gages help in this regard. Everything seem symmetrical nothing tweaked off center, but will know more when I get the panels removed. . As the old cliché goes "excrement Happens" I guess it was my turn. Might be time to fix her and let her go.

That don't sound fun at all.

Not a good ride Chuck. Sorry that happened. Try to do some good like cleaning it up and end up on it's side, bad deal.

This last summer, I did a dumb thing. My XT was leaning high side against the garage. I thought I could throw my right leg over it, gently work it away from the garage wall to get it out. My right leg didnt go far enough and actually pulled the bike over on top of me as I fell to the low side. I felt my head hit the cement floor hard and a pain in my left leg which had been trapped under the bike. I was lucky in that I had a mild concussion and a contustion on my leg. Nothing major with the bike. My balance at 76 isnt what it once was and I have to be more careful now. Love my canyon cages and sliders...and roll bars on my FJR. A guy in a big pickup knocked my bike over in a parking lot and lifted it up and put it back on the side stand and only later did I see a few scratches. It (pulling the XT on top of me) was one of those Aw excrement moments but it could have been oh so much worse. That is what the doc said when I stuck my hand into a wood chipper.....
Crazy winter here...warm, dry, but every morning has its usual ice fog. I cant remember when or if I ever changed batteries on my bikes so I have to go back to the maintenance records but the XT , 2017, needs a new battery at least.

Add me to the list here too. I was riding my bike (bicycle) on a wind trainer indoors 2 weeks ago and crashed. After peddling for exercise I was dismounting, cowboy style, and as I threw my leg up and over the bike the bike became disengaged from the wind trainer and I fell awkwardly backwards with the bike and half the wind trainer on top of me. I hit my lower ribs on the metal frame of a of a bed. After laying there for a few moments taking inventory of my condition I was able to get up. No head strike but rib pain was an issue. No indications of a hemothorax or pneumothorax but ribs were quite sore. Damage to the bike was a $20 derailleur hanger. I now have a "through axel" in the bike so that won't happen again.

Then a few days later I was out on my snowmobile grooming the ski trail and upon getting back on the snowmobile after adjusting the groomer I felt my back go out. I think the muscle tension from the ribs screwed up my spine alignment. Now I had yet another set back. Then following another week of light duty I needed to replace the argon tank of gas on my MIG welder. So, like any stubborn male person would do, I lifted the tank into my pickup truck. On the way to town my back reminded me that it didn't like that maneuver. But neither the argon tank or the snowmobile had any damage from the above incidents, just me. I don't know if climate change is a real issue or not, but I'm pretty sure there is more gravity than there used to be
