I don't remember the exact dates, because I didn't make it to Spearfish in '14. Joanne and I were moving from Ft Morgan to Greeley during that time. But the 11th was a Friday, and that's always been a good day for folks from the NT/ST-Owners group to ride to Devil's Tower. The 2nd week of July was also kind of a default date for the Rally until Corvette owners and a big art festival decided to take over our time there.

I remember being there in the 1950s too. No air conditioning. And there were hired hands running around the parking lot putting bumper stickers on every car they could. WALL DRUGS. Can you imagine someone doing that today?I did my educational stop there in about 1952. I was on a trip with my family in Dad's 1949 Packard. I remember more about that car than the Corn Palace.

You shouldnt go now...you are too old and too smart....the magic is gone......Not me.. I've yet to be the latest victim of that tourist trap lol
A wise man....It also helped that they had "Have you visited Wall Drug? billboards for 50-100 miles in every direction! We rode through Wall a few years ago but never stopped.
I have to say I was incarcerated in Illinois for 40 years, first in Downers Grove and then South of Champaign Urbana. One of the few things I do miss is night rides in Summer when you can smell the corn in the humid air....than and the cheep booze and lightning bugs. (y)I have been there more than once. I don't feel bad about visiting the corn palace. I grew up in Illinois where we grew the stuff. Corn was important to us. If it wasn't for corn the state would be an empty wasteland.

Hay...yes, that also....out here, the best smells are willow river bottoms, and mint fields....but nothing trumphs a brief rain on sage brush....(y)When I talk about the "night smells" on hot humid nights people think I'm nuts, but the smell is wonderful. The smell of fresh cut hay is also wonderful. Glad someone else besides me noticed 'em.
