Anyone remember William?

... asking a bunch of old guys... if they remember an old guy... from years ago... lol :geek::ROFLMAO:

I don't remember the exact dates, because I didn't make it to Spearfish in '14. Joanne and I were moving from Ft Morgan to Greeley during that time. But the 11th was a Friday, and that's always been a good day for folks from the NT/ST-Owners group to ride to Devil's Tower. The 2nd week of July was also kind of a default date for the Rally until Corvette owners and a big art festival decided to take over our time there.

I'd say there was a high probability that I was there when a group arrived at the Devils Tower. Saturday I took the family up to the mountain and we walked completely around its base. Sunday we were off to Yellowstone.

We did six National Parks and were on the road 27 days. We even stopped at both the Wall Drug Store and the Motorcycle Museum in Sturgis, SD. This was the best family trip we took to date. I am sure that we created memories that will last a lifetime for my two boys.

I did my educational stop there in about 1952. I was on a trip with my family in Dad's 1949 Packard. I remember more about that car than the Corn Palace.
I remember being there in the 1950s too. No air conditioning. And there were hired hands running around the parking lot putting bumper stickers on every car they could. WALL DRUGS. Can you imagine someone doing that today?

Not me.. I've yet to be the latest victim of that tourist trap lol

It was a family vacation, you’re supposed to stop at places such as this. It’s “FREE” to look. We only got a snack while at Wall Drugs, besides it was time for a break from the hours of driving we did on the interstate. The truck needed fuel and everyone needed a pit stop.

I do not regret stopping there. Now I have bragging rights saying that I stopped there. :)

You shouldnt go now...you are too old and too smart....the magic is gone......
Chris who has never been to Disneyland

after seeing pics a few years ago from spearfish rally, someone visited Wall Drug. So I was nearby after Badlands. So went to Wall Drug AND stayed overnight in Wall. I only had 2 maple donuts, and just walked around in amazement! If you read the story about this first store, were about to go out of business, when they decided to offer free ice water!!!! then they grew by leaps and bounds

It also helped that they had "Have you visited Wall Drug? billboards for 50-100 miles in every direction! We rode through Wall a few years ago but never stopped.

I too succumbed to the hype of Wall Drug and the Corn Palace.... meh...

I have been there more than once. I don't feel bad about visiting the corn palace. I grew up in Illinois where we grew the stuff. Corn was important to us. If it wasn't for corn the state would be an empty wasteland.

I have to say I was incarcerated in Illinois for 40 years, first in Downers Grove and then South of Champaign Urbana. One of the few things I do miss is night rides in Summer when you can smell the corn in the humid air....than and the cheep booze and lightning bugs. (y)

When I talk about the "night smells" on hot humid nights people think I'm nuts, but the smell is wonderful. The smell of fresh cut hay is also wonderful. Glad someone else besides me noticed 'em.

Hay...yes, that also....out here, the best smells are willow river bottoms, and mint fields....but nothing trumphs a brief rain on sage brush....(y)

Yup! In my travels out west I too enjoyed the aroma of sage brush. At first I didn't know what it was but I finally figured it out. Also, now that my remembery is cogitating, the smell of a pine forest is quite enjoyable as well. Motorcycling, after all, is an immersion of the senses.
