Sounds like an encounter I had with "Love Bugs" in Florida years ago. The locals said it was mating season.... they were horrible. The windshield and face shield was plastered with'em and a good many managed to sneak in past the visor and fly around my face and up my nose.... yeech!!!WRONG Mike.
It was MI, on my annual “Tour da UP”.

Besides, our mosquitoes are much larger.
Never saw them bugs before or since. Riding along the north shore of Lake Michigan I could see what looked like smoke way ahead. It was moving like smoke and gone when I got there. Then I finally hit a swarm of them. That sequence happened several times that evening.
