Of my 100K miles do I think were fun or pleasure, and what work commute miles? That would be best estimate 10,000 fun miles, day trips, weekend trips, errands, etc. So that's 90% work related miles. Also how many tank fill-ups? 487 fill-ups to get to 100K based on a 205 miles per tank.
I'll be looking over notes on maintenance issues, but I know I have had less problems on my NT

what king of maintenance did I do to reach 100K?

valve checks....1,250....4,832.....31,241....69,027.... will get next one mid April. Always in spec, but brought in to middle of spec. I did watch others post being able to go past recommended intervals, so that is what I started to do. I did post in the "epic intervals valve" about 2 of the checks.

2 weeks after 1 yr of ownership, radiator developed a pin hole leak on back side. Ordered a new one, @ about 33,000 miles and having past 1 yr, didn't want to try a warranty discussion with Honda. I did go past 1 yr and had too many miles, had to get new one back on and RIDE.

front brake pads @ 54,693 miles, rear ones a bit later, I guess I didn't write down miles. About 60,000.

2 air filters, 2 sets spark plugs, need another set in when I get valve check.

12-7-14 92,564 miles. rear spline drive hub, thrust washer and another cone shape spacer, rubber cushions and alum inserts. Rear brake disk. Rear shock.

12-21-14 93,443 miles. fork seals with copper sliders, oil.

1-11-15 rear rim. the internal thrust bearing and cone shaped part wore away the hub on rim, creating about .100 (almost 1/8, .125) space. could see bearing sticking that much out. didn't know what it should look like , but figured out it wore away. new rim came with new bearings.

have not changed brake fluid or coolant yet. going to get both done soon, brake done by mechanic @ valve check, and I will do coolant. I did get some new in when changing radiator and having a slight hose leak. I ride so much and bike is parked inside my attached garage when not riding, was not worried about brake fluid attracting moisture.

12 oil changes using 10w-30 full synthetic about 8K apart. will be doing another this weekend.

I think that is it. I believe its a reliable Honda!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duane, you are riding a lot to be over 45K in 3 1/2 years. You're coming up on that 50K mark pretty soon! Keep riding!

got my IBA certificate in ONLY 2.5 weeks. said it would take 2 - 3 months because auditors are only doing it as a side job. I'm # 60454. did the SS1000 24hr ride on 3-14-15, 1,055 actual miles in rain / heavy rain and mostly colder temps, from 45 - 70, mostly 45-58. did it in 21 hrs which was a loop, all state highways and some interstate. the ride was supposed to be a group ride, but because of rain, didn't meet as group. I did it by myself. and was part of achieving 100K award here, when I came back home, had 99,350 miles.

You must get in a zone when you ride as I think most of us would have quite well before 21 hours in the rain and cold. I don't mind either of them for moderate durations but not for 21 hours.

David, I understand that the IBA has revised its structure so that ride certificates are getting out much quicker now. My first SS1K cert took nearly 5 months. The only certificate I've gotten quickly was the one for the Wild West SS1K at the Iron Butt Association International Meeting in Denver last August. I finished the ride at 11:30 on Thursday evening and got the certificate handed to me by Mike Kneebone himself at 4:30 on Friday afternoon.

Congratulations on your ride!

Warren....it didn't rain the whole way. first started out fog/ heavy fog, then when I got to coast after 1pm meal, heavy rain all the way on coastal roads. most were 2 lane each way, made it nicer, but rain was so heavy, there was limited vehicles out. it was about 4-5 hrs in that mess. after getting out of it, needed gas and put on my heated vest in about 55 deg and changed my rain boots which were soaked to other boots. then it was sensible and warmer riding, that lasted till the mountains, until went thru some more but light rain. if this wasn't an intended group SS1000 (but ended up out of the group loop because of so much forecast rain), and achieving 100K on bike I would have not gone. at no time did I feel too fatigued to carry on, but did feel overwhelmed to end it. I made it in 21 hrs, but if it nicer conditions time would have been around 18 - 19 hrs. only 4 out of 9 that started finished, 1 with 8 min to spare.

Phil, that would be cool to get M Kneebone in person to hand cert to you. wow, that's like you handing me the 50K sticker in person!!!

on my summer Colorado / Utah trip, final leg home, stopping at my sister-in-law in Seminole, OK I'm going to do another SS1000. its a straight shot across I40 to Salisbury, NC @ 1,055 miles for another SS1000. I do at some point want to try the SS1500 miles in 24 hours.

Congratulations!!! I am fairly new to the NT and in the process getting the bike to fit me better...I bought the bike used and it had a Sargent seat on it which I like and have put a Rox riser on it.As long as I remember to sit up straight the bike is comfortable...It will be interesting to see just how far your bike will take you.

Congrats Woodaddict on reaching the 100k milestone so quickly! I had a '97 PC800 bought new that I put 102k miles on but it took a lot longer than your 39 months.

My 2010 NT will pass 50,000 miles by the time I get home from the NT gathering in David, WV next month.

Cool! I've really got to get mine installed. But I'm not going to sign it or write "#3" on it.

a longevity maintenance post. the NT has entered a faze of slight using of the oil. last oil change last week of 116,500 oil had went from top of mark on dip stick to bottom line of dipstick. this also happened at the 108,200 oil change, which on this oil change I started using 10w40 full syn now. previous used the recommended 10w30 full syn

Thanks for the info on the oil usage Woodaddict. I'll tell my mechanic to check the oil usage the next time I take my NT700V to him since I've got 113,000 miles on my NT700V.

That is probably about a pint of oil used so that would be considered "normal" oil usage and it would actually be beneficial for a motor with those miles as it is getting a little extra lubrication.

I suspect some of the oil usage would be through the valve stems, not all lost through piston rings, as those valve stems have had an awful lot of use at that sort of mileage.

Anyway nothing to worry about, but something to keep monitoring IMHO.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.
