Two folks I knew with problems had bikes that would not try to start if the computer sensed low voltage. So, when their Shorai's were cold they were hosed.
Sizing is one of the big issues. For cold weather starts you want at least one size bigger than what I see recommended. The EarthX site is the first I've seen to really do that better. The problem is the price goes up dramatically, ie, you are essentially buying two batteries instead of just one.
Next is battery technology itself. It has advanced in leaps and bounds over the last few years and cold weather operation is one area the mfgs have been working hard on. Some of the military applications they include a built in heating unit for that purpose.
I suspect by the time my current battery needs to be replaced the Lithium stuff with be figured out....and cheaper
